Assassin Encounter II

Tengzu Municipality, Cheena, Earth

***

It was as if an invisible energy was pulling them toward each other. But moments passed, even only a few seconds, that their faces were romantically near, awkwardness intervened. Dreygo and Elaine mutually pulled themselves far from each other.

Her cheeks flushed in the process. Dreygo's heart thumped fast, hammering against his chest. As if he was fighting against a Demon Lord or the mystical beasts in hell.

Suddenly, the screeching sound of tires appeared from outside as a car halted abruptly. They were startled as it could carry danger. Demonic presence was nearing them too.

Peeking between the gaps of the blinds, Dreygo saw a black SUV parked in front of the house. Looking for the nearest weapon was his priority. The only weapon near him were kitchen knives. Two demon thugs disembarked the vehicle and cocked their submachine guns. The last one who disembarked was the first assassin after them. He had burn marks on his head and a vengeful look on his face.

"It's them. It's the assassin." Dreygo whispered to Elaine.

"What are we going to do?" Elaine asked. The thugs cocked their guns and aimed at the house.

"Duck!" Dreygo shouted right before the two demon thugs sprayed bullets into the house.

High efficient rounds flew from everywhere inside through the façade's windows. They duck behind the sofa and Elaine curled down facing the floor. The window glass clattered and fell on their backs, the television fell from its mounted wall, the plates in the kitchen were broken into pieces and everything was a mess. Bullet holes were everywhere.

"Where are the guns?" Dreygo asked Elaine, almost inaudible due to the noise made by the gunshots.

"Upstairs!" Elaine screamed back.

"We will wait for them to reload and we will run fast towards the second floor." It was no use for the knives. They need their guns to level the fight. The Ferrum minus was also upstairs.

After a few seconds, the guns stopped. As planned, they hurried upstairs right before they heard the clicking sounds of guns reloading. Elaine was first to sprint to the stairs followed by Dreygo.

Elaine made it to the second floor safely right before an explosion in their front door, shuddered Dreygo halfway down the staircase by the strong blast. He slammed himself against steps and with the ringing in his ears brought about the explosion.

It was a breach bomb.

The demons started to saunter closer to the house with their weapons ready for another round of random shooting.

The stairs were facing the front door and Dreygo's back was exposed. He immediately hauled himself up and climbed the staircase safely right before the thugs fired their guns again. Various bullets were buried on the walls and stairs missing only a few inches from Dreygo's back.

Luckily, if Dreygo had not been inhumanly fast, he could have absorbed the bullets.

He went directly to the room where their bags were kept. Elaine was holding her handgun and Dreygo took out the purge blade.

"Do we still have grenades?" Dreygo asked.

"Only one!" Elaine responded, shaking in fear.

They heard the thugs reloading again and started to invade the stairs. Dreygo took the grenade from Elaine, took the pin out, and threw it down the stairs.

The metallic ball started to bounce down the stairs. Dreygo and Elaine both ducked to the farthest corner of the room, anticipating the grenade's blast and suddenly, an explosion shook the entire house, and a deafening sound rang in their ears. The blast was so near, the house was of little confined space, making the sound reverberate on the walls and back to their ears.

For a few seconds, there was a moment of silence.

"How long do you think authorities would respond?" Dreygo whispered at Elaine as they regained consciousness.

"About Five to ten minutes, I think." She whispered back.

They heard nothing from the thugs below so Dreygo started to inspect downstairs, his purge blade with him. The blast decimated a large portion of the house's walls and floor. Wooden shards of debris were all over the place. Dust wafted in the air as the breeze rushed inside the house.

The first story was a haze and Dreygo saw two silhouettes lying in the living room and blood painted the floor. But they were not dead. One was twitching, and the other was screaming. Both grimaced in utmost pain. One thug had his chest open and the other had his leg decapitated, both were defenseless.

'The grenade must have landed near them. They were not fast enough to evade the blast.' Dreygo thought.

Without hesitation, Dreygo buried his purge blade on both necks and there was no retaliation from them. They were weak enough to defend themselves. Both demon ethers entered Dreygo's body.

He glanced outside and saw the assassin leaning on their parked SUV. He was playing with his knife, professionally rotating it with his fingers, then started to walk towards the house. Entering the house, the assassin stopped a few meters from where Dreygo stand.

"You are hard to kill. After I kill you, the girl is next," the Zi Lok assassin taunted.

"Bring it on you little shit," Dreygo retorted without a hint of fear.

The assassin started walking towards Dreygo with nonchalant confidence. He had knives in both hands. As their gaps were nearing, Dreygo launched a straight stab to the assassin's face but only hit the air.

The assassin ducked immediately, he moved fast and buried one knife in Dreygo's thigh. Dreygo screamed in pain, the stab was deep and made him shudder back toward the kitchen dining table.

"It stings. Even you are a demon," the assassin teased.

Dreygo took threw the knife out, and blood gushed out, and trickled down his leg.

The assassin started to walk again towards him. Dreygo thought that a straight stab would not connect, or else he will deliver the same move. The Assassin was more skillful with his evasions and artful.

Dreygo's hand fell on broken plates behind him, grabbed it, and threw it to the assassin. As expected, the assassin ducked from the broken plate and Dreygo expected now to connect his attack as he swung his weapon, targeting to slice the assassin's neck.

But the assassin easily retracted his body away from the attack and Dreygo missed again. The assassin countered as he threw his second knife at Dreygo, aiming at his forehead.

Dreygo successfully evaded the knife only an inch away from his forehead but in the process, he slipped on the floor slamming his body against the broken tiles. He quickly inspected the floor and it was blood from the demon thugs that made his boot slide. He quickly rolled back and hauled himself up but found himself slammed against the kitchen cabinets as the Assassin wrestled him.

Shuddered, his purge blade fell to the ground. A sudden stabbing pain in his stomach loomed. It was only discomfort at first but the pain grew right after he knew that it was a knife lodged in his gut.

The assassin took large steps back, creating significant distance between them. Dreygo was surprised that the assassin faltered back, it was supposed to be the assassin's opportunity to deliver succeeding stabs for a kill.

He saw the assassin smiling at him. He inspected the knife, it was blinking. It was the same explosive knife back in Xiangxi hotel that caught him off-guard. He immediately grabbed it and struggled to take the blade out. The blinking frequency increased, it was about to blow. The explosion in his gut could kill him instantly.

Elaine's image rushed into his thoughts. It was all he think about, nearing his death.
