Chapter twelve

Chapter 12

"Uhh! I don't know what I want." Alex walked up and down the grocery store aisles for the third time, unsure of what to get her and Leo for dinner.

She heard Gabriel groan behind her, "Can't you just order a pizza or something?"

"Leo doesn't like pizza." Alex sighed.

"So? Just get him a steak or something then." Gabriel rolled his eyes.

"Yeah, fine." Alex agreed, then chuckled sadly, "The meat section is on the other side of the store...." Gabriel sighed. "Yanno what, I'm just gonna teleport there, see ya!" Alex teleported herself to the opposite side of the store.

"That was a lot easier." Gabriel muttered from behind her.

"Yeah. Ok let's go." Alex grabbed two packages of steak tips, then her eyes looked over to a random camera nearby. It had the camera part, that recorded everything, then a screen beside it so you could see yourself. Alex narrowed her eyes curiously at the image of a woman that was near them, her eyes were glowing.

"Ahm....Hey Gabriel." Alex peeled her eyes from the screen and glanced back at the woman.

"Yeah?" Gabriel asked, oblivious to the situation.

"What...ah...monsters...have glowing eyes on camera?" Alex talked quietly so the lady wouldn't hear.

"Shapeshifters I think, why?" Alex nodded her head towards the camera, and Gabriel followed her instructions. "Ohh....?"

"What should we do?"

"Does this have anything to do with your job you found?" Gabriel looked over at the woman while he spoke.

"Yeah probably." Alex nodded.

"Ok...well...." Gabriel trailed off.

"Should we follow her?" Alex suggested.

"I'll follow her, you head back to the hotel." Gabriel ordered.

"What no! follow her. I'm quieter, I don't have annoying wings flapping about." Alex crossed her arms.

"It'd be better if I did it." Gabriel insisted.

"How would it be any different if you did it than me?" Alex raised an eyebrow. "I'm fully capable of following some old lady."

"Really? Cause look," Gabriel gestured to where the woman once was.

Alex's arms fell to her sides and she sighed, "See, now she got a head start 'cause of you. Here." Alex shoved the steak into Gabriel's arms. "Buy the meat. I'll be back."

"Hey, Alex! Wait a minute."

~

Alex followed the woman, while being invisible, through town, and down some dark alley. She had grabbed a silver knife and a gun with silver bullets beforehand. Alex hid behind a dumpster as the lady pulled open a sewer cap, and climbed inside.

Alex slowly  crept down  the ladder to the sewer, wrinkling her nose in disgust. She landed on the ground in a puddle of god knows what, then looked around the dark tunnel, waiting for her eyes to adjust. "This sucks." Alex muttered, making herself visible again.

"Alright where are you..." Alex walked through the labyrinth of tunnels. She saw the pink on the woman's dress and quickly hid around a corner. The woman was muttering quietly to herself, saying things Alex was unable to hear or understand. Alex took the opportunity, jumping out with her knife in hand, about to attack the shapeshifter.

The woman whirled around in the same second Alex went to attack, and screamed. "No! Please!" The woman raised her arms over her face and Alex's knife made a long cut on her forearm.

The cut didn't bubble, or crack, or seem to affect the woman at all. "Wait...What??" Alex watched as the woman fell to her knees, clutching her arm. "I..ah...You're not a shapeshifter are you...?"

"A what?!" The woman looked up at her.

"Ok, ok. It seems we have a misunderstanding...What's your name?" Alex offered a hand to the lady.

"A-Amelia... My name's Amelia.." She took Alex's hand and stood up.

"Okay...Amelia, what the hell are you doing down here?" Alex questioned.

"I...Live down here..." Amelia admitted.

"Oh...." Alex laughed awkwardly. "Well, I'll be going now...." Alex backed away slowly until she was around the corner, then teleported back to the hotel room.

~

Gabriel walked back into the hotel room and put the steak on the table beside the door. "Ok, I don't know if she cooks it for you or what, so you're just gonna have to starve for now." He looked over at Leo who was laying on Alex's bed.

"Hey, I'm back" Gabriel turned around to see Alex walk in.

"Hey. That was quick."

"Yeah, I guess." Alex shrugged.

"So, how'd it go?" Gabriel could tell something was up with her.

"Oh, good. Good. Shapeshifter was real easy to kill...Yeah." Alex nodded. It was easy for Gabriel to tell she was lying.

"Really?" Gabriel played along. "Good. Oh, I didn't know if I should cook the steak for Leo or not, so I didn't do anything."

"Who?" Gabriel nodded a little,

"Your Hellhound." Gabriel pointed at the floating black collar still on the bed.

"Oh? Right...."

Leo began growling and jumped off the bed to stand in front of 'Alex'. "Looks like he doesn't like you too much huh?"

The shifter began to shift uncomfortably. "I think I left something in the car...I'll just.... go." 'Alex' ran towards the door but before they could get there, Gabriel appeared in front of them.

"I don't think so, buddy." Gabriel pulled out a silver knife Alex gave him and easily stabbed the shifter. It felt awkward because it was like stabbing Alex, but not. Suddenly, something grabbed both of Gabriel's arms and pulled them behind his back, making him drop the blade.

"Sorry, gonna take more than that to trap me." Gabriel chuckled and easily broke free, backing away and turning towards his attacker. "Well that's a little creepy."

In front of Gabriel stood another Gabriel, who looked exactly the same. "So, there were two shifters?" Gabriel assumed.

The shapeshifter came into the hotel room, closing the door behind him. "Well, you may be able to copy what I look like, but you still can't copy everything." Gabriel smirked, taking out his angel blade, assuming it would work.

"Oh really?" The shifter challenged.

~

Alex closed her car door, trying to figure out where the shapeshifter would be.

She opened the door to the hotel room and her eyes widened a little. Before her two Gabriels were fighting while Leo stood off to the side looking confused and another Alex lay dead on the floor near her. "Am I interrupting something?" Alex stepped over her dead clone and closed the door while the Gabriels stopped fighting.

Both the Gabriels spoke at the same time, "He's the shifter." And they pointed to each other.

Alex laughed a little. "Well...This is awkward..." She could easily tell which one was which.

"C'mon Alex, you know I'm the real one." The Gabriel on the right said.

"What? No you're not!" The Gabriel on the left exclaimed.

"Oh my god, just stop." Alex walked over to the right Gabriel and stabbed him. He fell to the floor, dead.

"You knew that was the shapeshifter right...?" Gabriel looked at her worriedly.

Alex facepalmed herself. "Obviously. I can see your halo, idiot. And why didn't you just kill him? You're an archangel couldn't you just smite him or something?"

"Yeah. I could. But I wanted to see how you'd react." Gabriel shrugged.

"We didn't even get to learn their motive for killing people..." Alex muttered.

"You also didn't get to dress up in your FBI clothes." Gabriel smirked.

"Can you speak one sentence without it being sarcastic or extremely sexual?" Alex chuckled.

"Nope." Gabriel continued smirking. "But you love it."

"Yeah," Alex breathed as Gabriel grabbed her by the waist and pulled her closer to him. She leaned up and pressed her lips against his. She could feel him smirking and couldn't help but smile herself.
