4 Chapter 4: Familiar training

The day was composed by two classes within the week days and one optional extra class on the weekend.

The Basics Incantation class had finished and Peter headed to the cafeteria for buy a lunch. The school had its own currency. Each new student received twenty credits a day and the amount increased by another twenty for each year above.

The things you could do with the credits was limited to buy food and rent books but that was important on a self study school. To gain more credits student could do tasks delivered by the school or even by outsiders. But the new students couldn't take any till the second semester.

"What are you thinking?", Ellen said.

"Credits. It's too low.", he replied.

"It's the exact amount for the day food and for a rent a book for a week.", she said calmly.

"I know and it's still too low.", he wanted to rent a lot of books and that's the why the credits were so low for him.

"Are you going to the library after lunch?"

"Yeah but I don't know if I have the money to rent a good book."

What he said was related to the fact the good books were more expensive for the day rent. Allowing only older students to borrow them. But he had Ellen at his side without knowing it.

"I can transfer some credits to you if you want.", she said it.

He forgot that she was from a rich family. They even paid for a Reborn on her familiar.

"I swear to pay you after but I only need the amount for one good book for a week."

"Ok. Seven days of twenty credits should do?"

"Oh yeah.", as he returned his mind to the previous class. "And I will help you with Basic Incantations with the ancient language."

"Ok, then."

"Beep, beep.", his watch sounded. As he looked a transfer of three hundred credits.

"I look foward to the classes, professor.", she mocked him and didn't give him a chance to refuse the money.

"Oh you will, you will.", he returned. "I will pass fastly on the library. So head to the arena I find you there."

"Ok. See you later."

"See ya."

"You really give luck, don't you?", he petted the egg that tremble in happiness.

The library was almost empty. The only students were from anothers years as the newbies were on cafeteria taking lunch. He fastly and quietly went to the bookshelfs and started analyzing the books.

"Odin. I need a filter to show me only things that aren't on my knowledge."

"Doing it, master."

In his vision the books started to pop some windows.

<Partially obtained.>

<Not obtained.>

"So now I can focus on what is on the books I want and if I need them."

Each bookshelf had on its the price for a day rent but for Peter surprise going up showed up more obtained knowledge than the lower ones. So he realized that the basics converge on the same advanced magic.

"What do I do?", he was stagnated.

"What happened, master?", Ophichus woke with his master doubts.

"I know the basics and was about to expand it but all will lead to the same advanced magic."

"Only if you don't create your own magic.", the little snake said. "Or learn with us too."

"Learn with you guys?"

"Familiars are as you said a extension of your body. So we have ways to use magic but if we can while being part of you means that you can as well.", the first familar explained.

"Translating simple incantations to runes is part of my power.", Odin concluded. "When the little guy hatch you will have a great affinity with the fire that you won't even need a incantation for use it."

"If familiar are this much important why no school explain this?", he was being enlighted by his familiars.

"Lost or private knowledge.", the snake said.

"Private is mostly known. Why do you think great families are much stronger and even pay for a Reborn?", Odin stated.

"Access to better magic as you are changing a part of the wizard on the process.", he undertood it more now.

"Exactly.", the snake said letting its head out of the sleeve. "But you already have three of the best familiars with you."

"I know you won't say but I wonder who you really are Ophichus.", the boy said picking basics incantations with partially knowledge. He passed on the librarian and asked for the books be delivered on his dorm.

"Why the partially ones?", Odin asked.

"I can finish them early and economize money."

"Then, why don't pick one them at time?", the little snake asked.

"We just finished Basic Incantations and the teacher is using ancient language. The students will look for alternatives. So maybe I won't find them again for some time."

"Master, you have a great problem ahead.", Odin said. "You don't have a familiar for this class."

"I don't have Luke hatched yet and showing anything beyond him on my second day would be too strange."

"Use Odin's combat mode, master.", Ophichus said.

"Explain it to me, Odin."

"Your magic vision will be enhanced and better possibilities will be shown to you, master.", the crow spoke it.

"What is my winning chance against Ellen and Felix together?"

"Almost 100%, master."

"With only Basics Incantations?"

"Yes.", he was doubting because Ellen and Felix were the most efficient pair from the newbies.

"Rune Seal can dispose from the dragon breath attacks and rune Ice can inflict it great damage. With the dragon out she isn't too much of threat.", Odin explained the best action course.

"Alright. Everybody take a seat and look at me.", the familiar training teacher arrived.

He was a great man. Very short hair and tight clothes. At his side a panther.

"I'm Steven and this is my familiar Flash. We'll begin with introductions and after this I'll instructed everyone alone for your best first class in Familiar Practice."

Everyone need to say their name and their pet as well the pet type. And then came to Peter's turn.

"I'm Peter.", he raised his egg. "This is Luke and it's a bird egg. I still don't know the species."

He didn't lie and didn't tell the truth. It was for the best. Mostly his best. The Reborn Project was a project that initiate with the intention of bring dead familiars back to life and then restructured to change the familiar type.

Everyone left the seat and were spread through four battlefields having a great space for the wizard and their familiars. Steven passed student by student leading them what they need to do and came to Peter.

"Tell me the truth, son.", he sounded like a militar. "You know what species Luke is, don't you?"

"Yes, teacher, but I didn't think was the best moment to tell others, you know?"

"I get it. You fear for the little one safety but I need the truth to lend you a hand."

"He is a phoenix, professor."

"So I don't have to lend you a hand. Just keep the good work and eventually he will hatch to help you, son.", Steven left.

"Thank you, sir."

"Don't trust him so blindly, master.", Odin said. "I saw a lot of people who are good on the outside and stab you from behind."

"The professors here have the money for a Reborn?", Ophichus asked.

"Probably.", the boy said.

"Remember that they need the sample from somewhere for the Reborn.", the snake concluded.

"Okay."

"Help... master...", the egg started to crack and a little beack started to show.

A little after. The upper half of the egg was anymore and the little chick was visible. Luke was very little and his plumes were light blue.

"You didn't have to force yourself this way, Luke.", the boy gently picked the chick out from the egg. Dropped the empty shell on the floor and put his familiar directly in contact with his another hand. "Welcome to the world. Luke."

"Welcome... master..."

"Why aren't you two like him?", the boy said to the crow and snake but none replied.

One day before. On Peter's room.

"What do you mean Reborn Luke, master?", Ophichus was questioning his own master methods.

"I think I vaguely understand and can only be done while he is on the egg.", Odin said it.

"As I thought too.", Peter said. "I won't really make Luke reborn but I will place runes on his egg to he absorb and then enhance his potential."

"Won't you probably kill him on the process?", the snake was concerned.

"No.", the crow responded. "But the runes must be so selected to prevent it from happening."

"Actually I'll only use one rune multiple times.", the boy replied.

"This won't limit the phoenix powers?", Ophichus was lost on his master thoughts.

"No. But this means there is only one rune that applies for this conditions.", Odin replied again.

"Yes. The Enhance Rune."
