"What happened?" Giovanni asked as the first thing when Evelyn sat down. "Is everything alright? Do you have to go back?"
"No," she spat the word out of anger, "he didn't like that I did not inform anyone about our little adventure to the Bakery. Julian is going to follow me everywhere for now."
Giovanni hissed. "That's bad. You are out in the world for the first time and in the protection of some other family. How could you be so careless?"
Evelyn gave him a stink eye. "Don't you know a lot?"
He shrugged. "You know very well that each of us has been through the same thing."
They did.
His words were the absolute truth because Evelyn remembered as clear as day that if anyone used to act out their fathers would not think twice before certain their dominance empowering them. It was one way to tell them that their father could protect them and destroy them in one move.
