However, a sudden whooshing sound in the air made her look up to see what was wrong.
Alas, petals of flowers descended from the ceiling like snowflakes, with balloons hanging on a thin thread.
"Suprise!" They all chortled in unison. Almost everyone she knew was here today, both the models and the managers.
Avery was both surprised and happy when everyone suddenly came out of hiding with a bouquet. Mrs. Piper was also holding a flower.
"Congratulations Avery!" They all chorused in unison happily.
Avery's heart warmed instantly. Seeing the smiles plastered on their faces, she felt tongue-tied. All the co-workers and other models were here, congratulating her.
"Thank you, everyone," Avery replied, flashing a genuine smile at them, and they all shouted, 'Ohhh, seeing the beautiful smile on Avery's face.
They pulled her in for a breathtaking hug that rendered Avery speechless. She knew it was Mrs. Piper's handwork.
The woman was indeed unpredictable. Avery knew she had judged her wrongly during the past few years.
When they all stood back to stand in the right position, Mrs. Piper gave Avery the flowers and took the box from her.
"Thank you, Mrs. Piper," Avery said with a smile plastered on her face, while Mrs. Piper only nodded her head in agreement and returned the smile.
Mrs. Piper opened the box containing the invitation cards and gave one to everyone in the room.
"We never knew you had a boyfriend, Avery. Considering the fact that you don't like partying, I thought you would end up single." A lady said playfully, and Avery could only agree with her more.
'Yes, I thought I was going to become a nun, but who knew my dad's company was going to go bankrupt and I was the only one who could provide the solution?' She could only smile because she couldn't say it out loud.
"Yes," Avery replied, tucking some strands of hair behind her hair. She knew not everyone was genuinely happy, but they wouldn't show it, right?
"But who is he? Is he famous? Is he a billionaire?"
"Too many questions at a time, Mickey," Mrs. Piper cautioned the red-haired girl in the room.
"I just wanted to know if Avery got a big fish. Don't you think, Avery?" Mickey asked with her pretentious face while the rest focused their attention on Avery, waiting for her to reply.
"You don't have to answer her, Avery; just ignore her." Mrs. Piper tried to persuade Avery.
Avery watched Mickey with a mixed expression. Right now, she just wanted to slap the girl for being a nuisance and a boastful person, but it's fine.
"Maybe it's time to let Mickey know her place," Avery thought as she took a step forward towards Mickey.
"Yes, he is a billionaire. So anything else, Mickey?" Avery asked as she walked forward elegantly.
"Then I guess he is still on the road to success. I just checked his name on the browser, and no billionaire in Los Angeles was bearing that name." Everyone's mouth was left agape when Mickey said this.
"So tell us, Avery. Are you lying? You could just tell us you are getting married to an average guy; we won't talk, you know," Mickey added, shrugging her shoulders. A malicious smile graced her lips.
This is something Avery has been trying to digest too. She has tried searching for his Sebastian name to find something about him, but nothing was shown. And this only showed how powerful and wealthy he is for him to do this.
"There is nothing to lie about here, Mickey. You don't have to worry if I will be getting married to a poor person or billionaire," Avery replied, and everyone couldn't rejoice more hearing Avery's reply.
Mickey has always been in the spotlight at the agency. She is a top model who has been representing different brands.
"She has even become more bold," a girl whispered to Mickey's ear, standing close to Mickey.
"I think it's settled, Mickey and Avery. You don't have to argue because of this. And I think Avery already made it clear for us."
Mickey's face was flushed pink with embarrassment. Who knew Avery would be bold enough to give her this faltered blow to her face?
Mickey walked back to stand beside the table, dread filling her mind with each passing second.
Mrs. Piper and everyone else congratulated Avery and wished her a fruitful union, while Mickey remained grumpy all day.
After discussing with Mrs. Piper, Avery left the company.
Everyone moved towards the window to see Avery walk out of the building. However, what left their mouths hanging open and their jaws dropping was the man in the black suit who opened the car door for Avery to step in.
"Is that not the latest car that just came out last month, Mickey?" One of the girls screamed, tapping on Mickey's shoulder to look out of the window.
Mickey could see that, and this surprised her even more. "Who knew if she stole it just to show off? Her fiance might even be an old man," Mickey whispered to the shell of her friend's ear.
"What do you mean, Mickey?" The girl replied in a hushed tone. She pulled Mickey's hands towards her, dragging her out of the room to the restroom.
Mickey locked the door to retract her gaze back to her friend.
"It might be an old, rich man. Maybe she just needs some money."
"Why will you say that aloud, Mickey?" The brown, wavy-haired girl asked, cautioning Mickey. "What makes you think she is getting married to an old man? Her clothes were designer."
Mickey huffed, washing her hands before wiping the water off with the napkin.
"I know what I am saying. The name written on the invitation card is not among the billionaires in Los Angeles'' Mickey pointed out, her voice laced with jealousy.
"You can't say, Mickey. But I will be attending the wedding, of course," the girl said, a sinister smile gracing her lips.
"We will find out then if it's a billionaire or not," the girl added.
"The event is not even unfolding in any top hotel or hall. It's taking place in a fucking garden in God knows where," Mickey said, freaking out. Her friend only watches her keenly, her eyes piqued with interest.
"Is there a reason why you are freaking out, Mickey? I said we would just go to see who Avery is getting married to." The girl replied,
"And what about your boyfriend?" the girl asked, changing the subject.
"Hum, he is fine, of course, and even took me out yesterday to the famous Azel clothing company. You can't believe it," Mickey shrieked with a wise smile gracing her lips, displaying her perfect white teeth.
"Well, I just want that kind of man. He is too charming."
"You will have to keep searching because I will never share my man with anyone," Mickey replied, giggling while her friend pouted her lips, faking a sob.
