Imagine that you're scouring webnovel, looking at the top 200 fanfics, you select a few that interest you. After finding the time to try out some of them, you find that in the first few chapters of most of them, they contain massive walls of text of descriptive writing using the most flowery language.
Immediate turn off.
Fanfics are a special piece of fiction for me, they are much more creative and explorational compared to webnovel originals(Being free to binge-read is the main reason why I read them) . Please don't solely depend on the help of AI to write, it ruins the entire purpose of creative writing.
Although, I won't entirely reject the idea of using AI to help, like maybe asking chat gpt to proofread is acceptable, grammerly to check your language use. They're all harmless and would instead benefit your growth as a writer, helping you to become more accustomed to English.
Languages are a beautiful thing, whether it's English, Chinese or any other language, there lies centuries of advancements in human societies under every word. It would be such a shame if one were to deny humanities capability for growth by depending on AI to write anything.
Languages are not just about using advanced words to sound smart, it's more about using suitable language to convey thoughts and ideas to another. Show not tell, repetition, similes, metaphors etc. Language features like these make up a good story, and all of them can be applied to most languages, if not all. Many people get stuck in the mindset that, to write good stories, advanced language usage is needed, but I want to say that, it's not the expert use of complex words that makes a good writer, though certainly a highlight, it's the clarity in which they convey what they wish to convey. No set way of thinking is the best in every situation, just as how there's not a standard writing style that trumps all others.
What I ultimately want to say is that, no matter your proficiency in English, using AI to mainly write a story would only be a waste of effort, people write fanfics for many reasons, some for wish fulfillment, others to improve their language. Unless your reason to write is to cause harm, every single person is free to write, learn, and improve. Please do not think that you, the reader, has no capacity for growth, humans are after all, an animal —living breathing organisms— that adapt to their environment, and thrive in it.
Let your writing and creative thinking run free, like a horse grazing the fields, and spread your wings proudly. Depend on your ownself, exercise your writing, expand your vocabulary, learn to write naturally, and most importantly, think. To all the other fanfiction enthusiasts, I hope you have a wonderful time reading, and here's to great daydreams ahead.
