Darkness

As if his thoughts had summoned her, Tim’s headlights illuminated a figure standing in a small clearing along the road. A brief strike of flame as she lit a cigarette cast enough light on her face to confirm that it was indeed Rachel standing there.

Tim was conflicted at this confirmation. He was glad to see Rachel had made it here and welcomed the company to his goal. On the other hand, he knew where he was going and could finish this on his own. He didn’t entirely trust that Rachel being there significantly raised his odds of this succeeding. He wasn’t sure. Either way she was here and there was no choice to make. He certainly wasn’t going to try and ditch her. Not now that she had seen him anyway.

Tim slowed the car and pulled in the clearing; a small alcove big enough for a couple vehicles to pull over.
