That gut-wrenching betrayal, Adrian coldly declaring he never loved her, his son Jake cheering as monsters kill her daughters one by one while Ivy is powerless to stop it, makes her rebirth fifteen days into the past, waking with that same cruel demand echoing word for word from Adrian's mouth, one of the most gripping openings I've read in a while. The scene I'd love to illustrate most is that devastating moment at the locked door, Ivy on her knees in the rain, Aria and Layla clutching her sides as the giant monster's eyes ignite in the darkness ahead, her arms spread wide between the creature and her children with absolutely nothing left to fight with. There's such raw, desperate tension in that image, a mother's last stand against something impossible. I'd also love to capture the chilling rebirth scene, Ivy's eyes flying open in her warm, familiar living room, her hand finding her own pregnant belly as Adrian's mouth forms the exact same cruel words she's already lived through, her voice overlapping his in perfect unison. It's such an eerie, electrifying beat, the first sign that this time, she remembers everything. I do manga style commission art, and stories about a betrayed mother reborn with vengeance in her heart, ready to burn the world down to protect her children, are exactly the kind of stories I love bringing to life through illustration.
