Outside, under the dim streetlights, more than a dozen police cars and seven or eight military jeeps arrived, with rows of police officers and female soldiers emerging, all carrying firearms.
They quickly surrounded the Golden Panther Bar and the surrounding area, preventing anyone from leaving by car.
Among them, Zeng Shen noticed several people exiting the van parked below the hotel. An old woman and a few thuggish-looking white men appeared flustered but soon calmed down, trying to cooperate with the police and soldiers.
However, Zeng Shen wasn't about to let things go their way. With a focused thought, those people suddenly re-entered the van, attempting to break through the encirclement.
This immediately marked them as dangerous in the eyes of the female soldiers. Without hesitation, a female soldier wielding a large steel cannon turned and fired directly at the van.
A deafening explosion followed, with flames erupting as the van was blown to smithereens. Instantly, the previously uncooperative crowd attempting to flee became quiet and compliant.
Inside the hotel, a slight smile played on Zeng Shen's lips as he softly told the girl in his arms, "It seems the ones controlling you are dead. You're free now."
Barbara's large, watery eyes widened as she looked at the flaming wreckage of the van, finding it hard to believe. The people who had controlled them for so long were just gone?
Taking a deep breath, she turned her gaze to the man holding her, noting his confident, charming smile, which inexplicably reassured her.
After a moment, with some hesitation and unease, she asked, "Big brother, I don't know where to go now. I'm undocumented and can't get by in the U.S. Can I stay with you?"
"Stay with me?" Zeng Shen asked, meeting her earnest expression with seriousness. "Have you thought it through? I'm not from the U.S., and I won't stay here long. I also won't keep someone around just as a pretty face."
Barbara didn't shy away from his gaze, replying with hope, "I've thought it through. I am valuable. I learn quickly and have a good memory. I want to be your woman."
"But I have a girlfriend, lovers, and other women. You're still young, only eighteen, at the prime of your youth. Perhaps in a year, you'll have a better future and become a transcendent deity," Zeng Shen gently advised, hoping she'd consider carefully.
However, Barbara seemed unfazed, shaking her head with determination, "I don't care about that. As long as you don't mind my unfortunate past and let me go back to Daxia with you, I won't be troublesome. I'll be obedient like your personal secretary, hoping you'll occasionally share a bit of love or affection with me."
Zeng Shen observed her resolute expression, the look of someone betting everything on him, and suddenly understood why she would become a Tier 3 Infernal Deity three years later.
Perhaps the apocalypse's outbreak wasn't entirely bad for ordinary people, as it allowed those teetering on the edge of darkness and despair to start anew.
"Silly girl, let the past be past. From now on, by my side, you'll be a new you," Zeng Shen said softly.
Hearing his gentle words, tears rolled down Barbara's cheeks. "Thank you, big brother."
"Why are you crying?" Zeng Shen asked.
But instead of speaking, she wrapped her arms around his head and kissed him.
Zeng Shen responded with equal passion.
Five minutes later, a prompt sounded.

Downstairs at the bar, Tioya watched coldly, her eyes fixed on the men and women, some in swimsuits, some not, being led out and into police cars.
Suddenly, a female soldier approached her. "General, we couldn't find his car. He might have escaped beforehand."
Tioya clenched her fist slightly, about to leave, but then several female soldiers approached with a box of potions and the bar owner, known as Brother Panther.
"Reporting, General. He's the owner here, known as Brother Panther. These potions were found in his storage," the soldier reported.
Tioya turned to look at the box of obedience potions, her eyes cold as she addressed Brother Panther. "Where did these illegal drugs come from?"
"I don't know," Brother Panther shook his head.
"I don't like wasting words," Tioya said with disdain, drawing her pistol and aiming it at his head, "Three, two, one."
She expected him to speak under pressure, but instead, he broke free from the soldiers holding him and kicked at her abdomen.
Reacting swiftly, Tioya stepped back and fired five shots at him, venting her inexplicable anger.
In a dimly lit room on the fifth floor of the hotel opposite the bar, two intertwined figures lay by the window, watching the commotion below through the curtains.
Zeng Shen cast an earthquake spell, causing the room to shake as if in an earthquake, with the floor vibrating and the curtains swaying.
As Brother Panther fell, Zeng Shen's lips curled into a devilish smile as he told the girl beside him, "The last person controlling you is dead. Are you happy?"
The girl, supporting herself against the window, her emotions fluctuating, replied hesitantly, "Happy, husband, big brother, I have a small request. Could you help me?"
"What request?" Zeng Shen asked, discreetly using a healing spell to ease her pain and prepare for the next round of intimacy.
"Next to the self-built house where you picked me up today, there are a few girls my age from the slums. I want to take them with us. Is that okay?"
"Is this your first request as my woman?" Zeng Shen asked gently.
Barbara nodded vigorously, "Yes, yes, can we, big brother? They're as unfortunate as I am. Please take them and give them new identities."
"No problem, but we might need to go now, or they might be taken away."
