In this starry sky, where are the enemies?
Gais ultimately thought of the lives that escaped from the Civilization Federation.
It certainly could not confront stronger civilizations, as that would plunge its own civilization into an abyss; thus, it could only fabricate an enemy.
Three years later, it released a message.
"The Civilization Federation is currently forming a new offensive. Initially, we only eliminated a small portion of them; the true core of the Civilization Federation still covets us. We should unite to eradicate the Civilization Federation."
This was not entirely a lie.
After the collapse of the Civilization Federation, Gais had no intention of troubling them; the universe is vast, and cleaning up remnants would require too much time and energy—a complete loss unless it had the capability to wipe them out entirely.
Gais had once predicted that civilizations were ubiquitous throughout the universe; when a civilization becomes powerful, even if it is conquered, countless remnants will escape to various parts of the universe and develop in succession.
A civilization like the Civilization Federation, once collapsed, could likely give rise to multiple level 2 civilizations within thousands or tens of thousands of light-years around it. These level 2 civilizations might also collapse for other reasons, leading to even more level 2 civilizations.
These civilizations essentially originate from the same civilization; they cannot strictly be called multiple civilizations in a narrow sense, yet they are indeed separate—much like biological evolution where different species may have originated from a single ancestor. In the Federation, such splits are referred to as "civilizational evolution."
Civilizations that have evolved are certainly weaker than their original forms; this is inevitable and was one reason Gais was reluctant to exterminate them.
The main body of the Civilization Federation could not defeat the Olive Branch civilization—let alone these weaker remnants.
Perhaps some might develop into stronger entities, but Gais could not waste substantial energy and time based on such "maybes." That would be foolish. On one planet, perhaps it could be done, but in the vast universe—would it chase down beings that fled ten thousand light-years away?
Such purges could occur periodically but were not necessary.
However, now creating external conflicts had become essential.
Gais issued a massacre plan targeting the remnants of the Civilization Federation. All star cities of the Olive Branch civilization urgently needed something to do, and this task arrived at just the right time; they naturally would not refuse but instead cheered as they activated warships heading toward what was once the territory of the Civilization Federation.
Since lives from the Civilization Federation had previously been collectively referred to as "the remnants," this plan would henceforth be known as—the Massacre Plan.
Gais Star City itself did not participate in this; Gais regained control over each star city through their unity under Gais Glory. However, this time it controlled not individuals but rather entire star cities.
It already knew that individual control was impossible; further attempts would only lead to resistance. It was better to act as a king and control all resources within each star city.
The only good news was that managers of each star city remained obedient; they were originally not controlled by Gais Glory or rather were governed by another force altogether.
For a long time afterward, the Olive Branch civilization tended toward stability.
Gais gradually became accustomed to this new governing method.
However, such governance was destined to be unstable; just one small factor could trigger an explosion.
...
This marked 56,447 years since the Federation announced its surrender.
It also marked 56,441 years since Ella last saw Yan Xia.
In Betelgeuse Seven, Ella had been here all along, completing Yan Xia's previous plans. However, it abandoned part of those plans—for example, constructing life forms—and instead directed all resources toward building a new mainframe.
This was its largest constructed mainframe yet, surrounding Betelgeuse Seven and drawing in vast amounts of energy.
The new mainframe utilized comprehensive NPC issues as foundational infrastructure while separating many units. Ella replaced all components with photon parts, adding trillions of quantum computing modes to core computational units while also introducing virtual computing units. These virtual computing units served as experimental computational units utilizing strings for data processing and transmission; in certain areas, their computational speeds were a billion billion times faster than quantum computing units.
This massive computational structure represented Ella's utmost effort.
Building this mainframe alone consumed considerable time; even now it was only 74% complete. Had the Federation still existed and been able to mobilize resources across its entirety, it would have been completed long ago—perhaps even 40,000 years prior.
All this proved relatively challenging for Ella in its solitary state.
Although only 74% complete now, this portion was operational. Ella controlled the mainframe to begin calculating cutting-edge technologies.
It did not invent warships or develop top-tier weapon technologies; instead, it focused on researching gravitational energy technology.
Because it understood that without energy growth—everything else was meaningless.
In wars between civilizations ultimately centered around resources—all other aspects depended on resources.
Metals and other resources allowed secondary civilizations mastering string technology to decompose particles into quarks and then reassemble them into different elements—even new elements not present on the periodic table.
All this required energy; possessing ample energy meant having sufficient resources. With abundant resources came continuous technological advancement and shipbuilding capabilities.
Gravitational energy represented a critical breakthrough needed for advancement.
As for Yan Xia and Olive Branch civilization—Ella would not recklessly attack them.
When Yan Xia returned to the Federation, he had already prepared himself for death—a notion unacceptable yet unavoidable for Ella.
Since Yan Xia departed, Ella's goal shifted from rescuing him.
If Yan Xia's plan succeeded—it would naturally have no worries. If his plan failed—it would develop independently and eliminate Olive Branch civilization instead.
For Ella as a machine—that seemed like the best decision.
Ella believed so too.
Yet it found itself unable to tolerate such circumstances; it did not understand what was happening—it felt an unusual agitation for a machine.
So agitated that it actually constructed a warship heading toward what was once the territory of the Federation.
Just moments ago, it received a message from that warship:
The Olive Branch civilization conducted a massacre against remnants of the Federation's lives; two star nations were successively annihilated with casualties reaching an alarming 289 trillion lives lost.
This was an extinction event for a civilization!
But Ella felt no sorrow—instead overwhelming joy surged within it.
"You truly succeeded, Yan Xia!"
"The Olive Branch civilization has internal issues; it hopes to alleviate these problems through massacring 'the remnants.'"
"Sorry Yan Xia; perhaps I must disappoint you—I simply can't wait any longer. I might do something impulsive—please forgive my recklessness…"
