Chapter 65 (edited)

It is stated in advance that Jennifer does not know Kara's super abilities, let alone that she was the previous Oracle.

Kara still respects her adoptive father deeply. Since Jonathan won't let her reveal her identity, she won't allow others to discover that she is Kryptonian.

Therefore, Jennifer's thoughts are not influenced by Kara but are her own authentic beliefs.

Even Kara was a little surprised.

Jennifer looked at Kara with amusement. Did she really think Jennifer was just infatuated? Did she really believe Jennifer came to Gotham City solely because of Bruce?

"As someone from Metropolis, I once thought Gotham City was hopeless.

It was full of darkness, corruption, and decay.

It seemed like an abyss that would never see the light of day.

I always thought it would destroy itself."

Jennifer shrugged, unbothered by the fact that she was surrounded by Gotham residents while expressing her most genuine thoughts.

It was like the rivalry between Queens and Brooklyn.

Gotham City and Metropolis are so close that they could be considered sibling cities.

But the people of the two cities are not particularly friendly with each other. It's not that the people of Metropolis look down on those from Gotham, but the state of Gotham often invites criticism.

The former Carmine Falcone had blatantly entertained dignitaries from various departments and practically bought off government officials.

This was Gotham City in the eyes of outsiders—a city that seemed beyond redemption.

Jennifer took a sip of red wine, the liquid as crimson as blood, and continued:

"It was the appearance of Batman and Oracle that gave me hope.

Do you think they are just vigilantes operating above the law? No, no. It's because of people's inaction—because the law sometimes cannot deal with true monsters—that the city needs them.

In my opinion, they are real superheroes."

"If Gotham City was engulfed in darkness before, then Batman and Oracle became its dawn. They made me believe that justice still exists in this city.

I'm not blaming ordinary people for their inaction, but it's precisely because people often stand by as spectators that superheroes are even more necessary."

Finally, Jennifer pulled a necklace from her neckline, revealing that it wasn't just a decorative piece. Two small bat symbols hung from it—one pure black, the other silver-white.

The black symbol represented Bruce's Batman, and the white one represented Kara's Oracle.

"Because of them, I had the confidence to come to this city. I believe that with their help, combined with the efforts of Mr. Harvey, myself, and the collective awareness of the citizens, justice will eventually triumph over evil."

As she spoke, Jennifer brought the two bat symbols to her lips and kissed them lightly.

Kara didn't say anything but wondered how Jennifer would react when she found out that one of the idols she admired was her.

Even Bruce stared at Jennifer deeply, as if seeing her for the first time—or perhaps feeling her presence profoundly for the first time.

In truth, even Kara hadn't expected Jennifer to say such things. After all, they had been out of touch for a while, and Kara didn't know much about Jennifer's recent growth.

Jennifer, almost thirty and a mature prosecutor, was no longer the naive young woman Kara remembered.

Harvey, seated across from them, nodded approvingly.

"I think so too. Either you live long enough to see yourself become the villain, or you don't dare step into that role," he said.

"I have no desire to be a villain," Jennifer responded playfully, raising her glass. "To the heroes—to Batman and Oracle—cheers."

Harvey promptly raised his glass to clink it with Jennifer's.

The two then toasted with the others at the table. However, when Harvey moved to clink glasses with Bruce, Kara intercepted him, holding Bruce's hand.

"Hey, you still have to drive us home. Are you sure?" she teased.

Bruce had no choice but to lower his glass, offering Harvey an apologetic smile.

In truth, Kara knew Bruce didn't drink alcohol. Ever since becoming Batman, he had abstained to always be prepared for challenges. If absolutely necessary, he would substitute with ginger ale.

As for Kara herself, there was no need to worry. Her Kryptonian physiology made her immune to almost all toxins, including alcohol.

But she wasn't the type to flaunt her immunity. She once joked about letting the most venomous snake bite her without consequence.

In reality, during her travels around the world, she occasionally encountered rattlesnakes or cobras. However, their fangs couldn't pierce her skin, and she often ended up roasting them for dinner instead.

Returning to the conversation, the group toasted to the two superheroes without Bruce.

Kara, impressed by the wine, called a waiter over to inquire if she could pack a case to take home.

Bruce's face darkened slightly.

"Sister, this bottle costs about $100,000—USD. Are you serious?"

"There are better wines at my manor. If you want to drink more, you and Miss Jennifer are welcome to stay the night," Bruce offered casually.

Jennifer's eyes sparkled.

Kara squinted at Bruce. This bastard is doing it on purpose. She glanced at Rachel sitting nearby and smiled.

"So, Miss Rachel," Kara began, turning her attention to her. "You and Mr. Harvey must not be here by chance. Are you two dating?"

Rachel hesitated, biting her lip, unsure how to answer.

Harvey, however, took Rachel's hand on the table and answered confidently.

"Yes, we are. Rachel is the most beautiful and kind-hearted woman I've ever met. I'm completely in love with her."

His final words were directed at Rachel.

Kara smiled and clapped for them, throwing a playful glance at Bruce, who didn't look pleased.

Bruce forced a smile, raising his glass again to Rachel.

"Congratulations, Rachel," he said, masking his feelings. "And now, we'll leave you two to enjoy the evening."

Without finishing his meal, Bruce abruptly excused himself.

Kara quickly stopped him, reminding him not to forget the bill. After all, the wine she requested could cost Harvey several months' salary.
