You Don’t Believe In Fate?

Sawyer felt his thoughts getting out of control. It rebelled against the rational part of his mind. Something that rarely happened to him.

In his mind, Sawyer felt driven to explain something he didn't need to because he wanted to make her comfortable and less awkward sitting beside him.

'FINE!'

Sawyer gives up fighting the emotional part of his mind. It's already out of his control, anyway.

He added, "Okay. Where should I start? Hmmm... Oh, here it is. I took a night's rest and drove back this morning. When I drove near the bus stop, I noticed the familiar clothes of the girl I met on the rooftop just yesterday."

Sawyer paused, glancing at her clothes, still the same as yesterday—jeans and a black shirt.

Abigail could feel her face getting warm, embarrassed as Sawyer remembered what happened yesterday.

"I don't know why, but when I realized it was you, my manners encouraged me to stop and greet you. I know it sounds silly, but I do that. So, I'm sorry if it startles you, Miss Abigail," he added.

Abigail instantly wanted to disappear from the car, remembering how suspicious she had been about this man. She thought he might've been stalking her, but she was completely wrong.

"Okay. Now, back to you, Miss Abigail. Seriously, why are you here? Is everything alright?" Sawyer asked, visibly genuinely concerned.

She smiled bitterly while looking at him, puzzled about what to do.

'Should I be honest with him? Should I tell him about my miserable situation? My Grandma? I need money to pay Grandma's hospital bills?'

After considering it for a moment, Abigail decided not to discuss her other personal matters with Sawyer. It was enough that this man knew her ex-fiancé had cheated on her with her sister.

She silently sighed deeply before speaking, "After what happened yesterday, I needed someone to share my sadness with. So, I came to this town randomly to visit my Grandma at the Autumn Garden Nursing Home. I also visited my mother's grave this morning before planning to catch a train back to Solhaven."

"I see—sorry to hear about your mother."

"It's okay. My mother died a few years ago. I just wanted to tell her about my jerk ex-fiancé," She wryly smiled.

A faint smile slowly appeared on Sawyer's lips upon hearing her words. He had not expected to meet her this soon despite already having her phone number and profile details from his people. But he had not read the information about her, as he had to rush to this place for personal business.

"You know what, Mr. Sawyer? I feel a chill when we meet here again," Abigail's eyes brightened.

In her warm heart and mind, Abigail quietly started asking if God might have sent Sawyer to help her, considering he always appeared when she was really in bad shape—right when she needed other hands to hold her back from falling deeper.

'Oh, Abby. Come on! Be rational and let go of such a silly thought. How could that happen in real life? Those things only happen in K-dramas, alright!'

Abigail turned her gaze to the street ahead and smiled quietly.

"Well, this meeting, our second meeting, might be fate. Agree, Miss Abigail?"

Her heart tightened upon hearing his words. Turning her gaze back at him, she frowned, "Seriously, you believe in that?"

"You don't believe in fate?" He asked, looking straight into her eyes.

For the first time, Sawyer could genuinely see her light gray eyes, clear and captivating. He felt himself drawn into their depths. But he quickly tore his gaze away, focusing hurriedly on the street ahead.

Abigail nodded. "Yep! I do not believe in things that seem too good to be true."

For a moment, they were both drawn into silence again.

However,

After a few more minutes, he spoke, "You may sleep if you like, Miss Abigail. I will wake you when we arrive in the city."

"It's fine. I'm not sleepy, Mr. Sawyer."

Her logic taught her not to sleep in a car where the driver was a man she just met for a second time. Also, her manner taught her not to sleep when the others worked hard to drive safely.

"Miss Abigail, please, just call me Sawyer. There's no need to add 'Mr.' before my name or call me 'sir,'" he said.

"But—"

"I insist, Miss Abigail." Sawyer continued when he saw her wanting to refuse.

"Okay. But in exchange, you must also drop 'Miss' before my name. I think this second meeting makes us close enough to drop the formality?"

"Hmmm. You're right. I agree. After what happened on the rooftop, we must introduce ourselves properly but with less formality. What do you think?"

"Agree! Alright, let me do it first..." Abigail smiles as she feels less awkward sitting next to him. "You already know my name, Abigail Snow. I used to work at Urbangrid Innovation. You know my company's address, right?"

"Urbangrid Innovation. Yeah, I know..." He smiled without looking at her. "Okay, go on..."

"My fiancé owns that company," Abigail paused when she felt an ache in her heart again. "Well, what I'm trying to say, my EX-FIANCÉ. And now, I'm jobless and also about to be homeless... I mean, I haven't yet found a place to rent."

She chuckled in misery, remembering how miserable her situation was.

"Alright, that's all about me. Now, it's your turn, Sawyer," she continued after a few seconds of silence.

Abigail's mind was now preoccupied with her curiosity. She wants to know more about him. She had only known his first name and nothing else.

However,

Sawyer didn't rush to introduce himself; instead, he asked, "I'm sorry to ask, but how old are you, Abby?"

Abigail was stunned to hear him call her 'Abby.' Only close family members called her that; even Ryland never called her 'Abby.'

For a few seconds, her eyes stared at him, mesmerized.

"Abby? How old are you?" Sawyer repeated his question after waiting a few more seconds, but she didn't say anything.

"Twenty-five—"

Sawyer was taken aback, hearing how young she was.
