"Stressing yourself out too much isn't good for you."

"What? Oh...yes, I suppose not."

"The children have all gone to bed already; perhaps you should rest as well, Lord Ain?"

I take a sip of the tea my beloved wife prepared for me. The herbal brew made from boiled mountain greens is healthy but somewhat bitter. Still, right now, that bitterness feels appropriate.

As a priest, one of my duties involves compiling documents to send to the church in the royal capital. Normally, this task is easy enough—I can just write whatever—but for the past two days, it has been giving me quite a headache.

"I think it's quite an honor."

"Society's definition of honor and what I seek are different."

It all started with a letter from the royal capital half a year ago.

The message contained so many flattering remarks it was nauseating before even getting to the main point: They wanted me to return to the city.

Once, when Maria first became pregnant, we were blessed with sake by the Goddess herself. Unlike myself, who knew this was just her way of clearing out her inventory, Maria had grown up normally in this world and took it as a miraculous gift, becoming quite overwhelmed by the event.

We tried to keep it secret, but somehow word got back to the royal capital anyway. Even scouring history books, there are only a handful of documented cases where the Goddess bestowed gifts directly upon people. The church couldn't afford to leave such a priest, one capable of performing such significant miracles, stationed on the frontier—it would be too damaging to their reputation.

Of course, since I had no intention of leaving this place—or Maria—I sent back a letter claiming that the Goddess entrusted me with protecting these lands as my excuse. My veiled threat about not wanting to defy her will worked perfectly, but their compromise was for me to at least instruct the youth once. Their subsequent response made it clear they would never let me leave again if I returned even just one time.

"Firstly, Maria is pregnant now, you know. How could I possibly abandon my wife when she's expecting?"

"Well then, perhaps after the child is born—"

"She'll be having another right away, so that won't work."

"Oh...!"

The trip from our town to the royal capital takes over two months each way. Even if everything went smoothly and I managed to complete business there immediately and head straight home, I'd still have to spend half a year apart from Maria.

She wants me to endure half a year without our cozy life together? As if that's possible! It's already tough enough with our older kids entering their rebellious phase...

Talk in your sleep.

That was my immediate response, but I suppressed it and politely declined her request in writing instead.

My eldest son has recently started showing interest in priestly work, so within a few years, we want to send him to school in the royal capital. As his father, I absolutely had to prevent anything from derailing those plans.

So now they're telling me to go to the capital after all? Like this is some separate issue altogether?

"Are you sure about your position, Lord Ain?"

"Well, when there's nothing else left to do, I suppose I'll just have to ask the goddess for help."

"You can actually do that?!"

"Who knows?"

"Grrr!"

Maria seemed genuinely shocked by my flippant response and started smacking me on the back repeatedly to express her indignation. Knowing this goddess, she might actually help us out if we were truly desperate, but generally speaking, I didn't expect much from her. We couldn't rely on her intervention from the start.

As I wrote the letter, memories of my life on Earth—now seeming like ancient history—came flooding back. Never would I have imagined that knowledge cultivated during my time as a salaryman could come in handy here. It was proof that dealing with people is always the most troublesome part of any situation, no matter what world you're in.

After focusing intently on the parchment before me for some time, I realized Maria had stopped smacking my back at some point. Since I'd sent her off to bed early yesterday, it made sense that she'd go ahead without prompting again today. Two days in a row without getting intimate with her was tough, but unfortunately, this issue couldn't be ignored... All I could do was brace myself...

"Wha—?!"

I let out a strange noise as I hastily leaped back and knocked over my chair with a loud crash.

"Heh-heh..."

Without warning, someone had groped me down there. Who wouldn't be surprised by that?

Ignoring my stunned state, the culprit continued fondling beneath the desk, her cheeks relaxed in obvious delight.

"M-Maria?"

"You seemed so busy, so..."

Ohhhhhh, yes!

Her lips parted.

Maria's trembling lips opened wide.

Out slid...

Maria's plump tongue emerged.

And then...

Maria's mouth engulfed me.

My child was growing inside Maria's womb.

She'd only swollen enough to show through her clothes when she took them off, so for Maria, who already had plenty of experience being pregnant, slipping under the table like this was no trouble at all.

"I'll serve you here today, darling!"

Perhaps she didn't want to disturb me.

She probably knew that if we started having sex, I'd get so caught up that there would be no time left for writing letters.

But maybe she couldn't bear holding back two days in a row. So Maria gave it some thought...and came up with this idea:

"May I please?"

Instantly, I straightened my chair and sat upright.

She slid her face between my deliberately spread legs.

"Please continue your work, darling!"

"Yes, of course."

Maria buried her head between my thighs.
