"Mum, was he that good looking ?" Emily asked excitedly.
Annie sighed. That's why it was harder to hide Ryan; he looked so much like him; he had the same piercing blue eyes and dark brown hair that fell over his forehead. The resemblance was uncanny, making it nearly impossible to keep the secret hidden for long. Annie sat back in her chair, her eyes downcast as she gathered the courage to say the next words.
"Damien doesn't know about Ryan," Annie finally said, her voice barely above a whisper. "And he can never find out. If he does, he'll try to take Ryan away from me, or worse, his mother will try to hurt Ryan."
Heather frowned, her brows knitting together in confusion. "But why, Annie? Why would they want to take Ryan away from you? And why would his mother want to harm him? He's her grandchild."
