Susan gave Jonathan his morning tea and took a step back. She was a distance away, her lips trembling to form a word as she fidgeted with her fingers.
"What is it, Susan? Why do you appear so nervous?" Jonathan asked, glancing at Susan over the newspaper in his hand.
Susan flinched at his deep rusky voice and shook her head.
"I am not nervous Master. In fact, I would like to ask you something," she said, and he responded.
"Go on"
"It is about Jacob," she said, finally expressing her thoughts, and he stopped reading.
He folded the paper, placed it on the table, and picked up the cup.
"What about Jacob?" he inquired, taking a sip from the tea.
Susan looked down, unable to meet his gaze, and said, "You gave him a job and cleared his debt? Why?"
Jonathan leaned back and looked at Susan thoughtfully. He was aware of what was going on in her mind, but she was too shy to express it.
