Military Base

Early in the morning, four Humvees with machine guns departed from the Virginia base and split in two different directions. These vehicles were accompanied by two large military trucks and some additional vehicles.

The objective of these two convoys was to send support to two growing towns that could be attacked by raiders. Dominic wanted to have eyes and protection in those places, just in case.

Moreover, considering the presence of abnormal walkers, it was not a bad idea to put these important communities under protection. There were many things happening without Dominic's knowledge, so having his people in some special places caused no harm.

Meanwhile, at the border, everything continued as usual. Instructors trained the recruits, and some more experienced groups went out in search of resources while others began working the land to cultivate vegetables.

Some time had passed since two helicopters left for the central base, with the mutant walker eliminated by Dominic. They needed to thoroughly investigate what kind of problem was occurring in places they couldn't reach.

...

The sound of a siren echoed inside a helicopter, where Dominic traveled with a group of forty soldiers, including his own team.

Originally, Dominic suggested that Maggie, who was at the border base, return to the main base to see her family again. After all, they were still alive, and he couldn't ignore that unless he didn't care, which was not the case. But Maggie said she wouldn't leave the front lines unless she properly worked the land, especially since direct communications with the central base were about to be installed.

This time, due to many factors, only Negan, Rick, Glenn, Daryl, Stuart, and T-dog accompanied him to see if it was a good idea to get involved with a military base.

Since Stuart arrived, everyone knew they had received a distress signal, and the situation of those trapped at a military base was very urgent. Dominic didn't have much time for this, but when he heard there were pilots among that group of soldiers, his ideas changed completely.

His community lacked experienced pilots, not only for flying helicopters but also for larger and necessary aircraft for the growth of their power.

Pilots couldn't be found as easily as combat aircraft, helicopters, or other types of air transport. Therefore, considering he had planned to visit a military base for some time, he believed it was the right moment to do so.

In the co-pilot seat of the helicopter Dominic was traveling in, Stuart listened to the liaison officer's information with a somewhat cold expression, capable of sweating, which continued to drip from his forehead. When he heard the last part, he waited a moment and said, "I am the captain of Bravo Squadron, under the direct orders of Commander Dominic. We will handle your extraction."

"We are approaching the military base where you are trapped! How many walkers have invaded the base, and what do you see outside?"

"Zz... Right now, I can't contact the man I sent to observe the surroundings, but we estimate there are some thousands of walkers." Colonel Ben Miller couldn't respond clearly; he originally thought no one would come to rescue them.

Stuart clenched his fists tightly and lightly tapped his finger on his leg, trying to think of a solution. He first adjusted his state and tried to imagine what they would see.

They had very little information to act calmly; it was even possible they were heading into a direct trap without realizing it. There were many possibilities, and right now that burden fell on his shoulders when he informed Dominic.

But he knew now was not the time to stress. No matter what would happen later, he was sure Dominic would lead the group to face this crisis. This way, they would obtain many of the of the things their people needed as soon as possible.

"That definitely sounds bad..." Daryl closed his eyes without saying anything more. He thought it was good to save those soldiers and was willing to take that risk, but he couldn't say the same for the others.

Glenn said nothing, knowing Dominic would prioritize the safety of their group. If this couldn't be resolved without losing, he would definitely abandon the idea of entering the military base.

"That doesn't sound good." Dominic reflected silently, and after a few minutes, he said, "Stuart, inform the soldiers at the military base that we will be entering. If there are walkers, we can attract them with the helicopters and get them out of the base wherever they came in."

"The sound of the helicopters and seeing us will definitely make them follow. Those methods had already been practiced, if I remember correctly. This way, once we lead the walkers away from the military base, we can be calm and not suffer casualties."

Stuart listened to Dominic's words in silence and nodded occasionally as he thought about the various possibilities they had. When Dominic finished speaking, Stuart contacted the squadrons accompanying them.

Of the three CH-47 Chinook helicopters, each was led by a captain who gave small orders to maintain the group's stability.

Considering these soldiers were complete strangers, Dominic didn't trust them much, so he informed everyone: "Our priority is to save all these people at the base, but remember they are complete strangers."

"If they pick up a weapon, order them to drop it immediately. We must not trust them unless we have a clear idea of their mental state. After all, they have stayed at that base long enough not to remain normal."

"Understood, sir!" Everyone responded in unison upon hearing Dominic's words. They all knew it beforehand. No one was allowed to take risks for unknown people, much less trust them, as they could attack without warning.

"We must secure the weapons immediately. If we give them the chance to recover their equipment, they could cause us problems," Daryl said, agreeing with Dominic's words.

Rick looked at Daryl and nodded. "I heard a group heading north from the prison was killed by some strangers after being deceived. Rick, in response, led an attack and killed all those people."

"Times have indeed changed. After the governor's attack, everything has become very unsafe." Glenn murmured complicated thoughts. After all, he hadn't killed anyone during this time. Could he be strong enough to do it when needed?

"Don't get distracted. This will serve as an experience and definitely solve many future problems for our community! Listen, I am eternally grateful you follow me, even if my orders sometimes endanger your safety!"

Rick was the first to speak, saying, "Don't be hard on yourself, Dominic. We all know we wouldn't have a better future without those decisions. I owe you my family's life, after all."

Dominic showed a slight smile and nodded silently. For days, he had been thinking that he often put his people in danger, and that was something he would definitely change.

Sitting in the helicopter seats with the others, Dominic slightly narrowed his eyes and began to analyze the current situation. The walkers should be scattered across the military base. Therefore, their arrival would definitely alert all the walkers. If he wanted to leave a group of soldiers near the armory, he needed to do it quickly.

However, finding the military base's armor would take a lot of time they didn't have, and in that time, many would be vulnerable to the walkers. In that case, the safest option was to control the survivors while the others moved the walkers.

In this hurried moment, Dominic remembered how easy it could be to move the walkers without spending energy or ammunition, thus increasing their safety in several ways. He would not endanger his group!

Thinking about this, he suddenly opened his eyes and shouted, "Notify the people at the military base that they should not move from their position, even if there are no walkers until we arrive. If they violate this order, they will have many problems. AA-1 squadron will descend in two minutes to a building at the base before we lead the walkers away with the helicopters. Your mission will be to contain the survivors until we return."

"Eliminate any scattered walkers while assessing the base's condition. If you see anything wrong or the survivors complain, you are authorized to eliminate them."

"Then, along with other soldiers, you should find some vehicles and take them to the fissure in the base, and if we're lucky, seal the hole where the walkers entered. Do not trust anyone; they are not our friends."

Then he told the Bravo squadron in the second helicopter: "Bravo squadron, your mission is to eliminate scattered walkers in the base and report on vehicles that may be useful to us, as well as resources in the base."

"Everyone establishes communications; we need to be aware of everything happening and, above all, your safety. Do not forget; if things do not look good, we withdraw."

"Understood, sir!"

A series of orders came out of Dominic's mouth. Every time he gave an order, those in charge of the missions immediately sent the instructions to their respective squads.

Even Daryl and Rick said little. After receiving the order, everyone prepared, ready to spring into action. No one hesitated at all because everyone knew every minute and every second was very precious.

"Zz... We are visualizing the base, confirming approximately more than ten thousand walkers. The AA-1 squadron is ready to descend!"

"Zz... Now!"

"Hopefully, we won't face any walkers!" Dominic murmured with a cold expression.
