Confidential Information

Upon returning to the center, Dominic went straight to the doctor to be attended to with better equipment.

"Do you have any other injuries?" Doctor Bethany Exner personally treated Dominic's wound, as he had requested her help.

"Can you assure me I'll be alright?" Dominic took a USB drive out of his pocket and left it on her desk.

"You won't die; I can assure you of that."

"Do I need to come for a follow-up?" Dominic started putting on his shirt.

This woman was quite special due to her abilities, and Dominic didn't want her to get lost in the drift of the upcoming events that he believed wouldn't happen.

There was no reason for Daniel to release the walkers in the stadium, so Dominic needed to be more aware of that information now that there would be no more danger to this place.

The reason all the soldiers here didn't leave the base in a hurry was that walkers began to invade the center. If there were no walkers, then that meant they would have a clear path to leave, which Dominic couldn't allow.

If he let the soldiers leave, he would lose the resources of this place that were rightfully his. The plans they had made with the resources of this place were so many that many barely had an idea of what was planned for the future.

The other military bases that would be abandoned could receive help from Dominic, but there was a problem: this didn't guarantee control, so he had to control just one place.

Everything is good until control is lost. Dominic would make sure that no man with certain ambitions wanted to take what was his. There were two things he couldn't stand in life: lies and someone stealing something he had worked so hard to achieve.

"The stitches in your wound will fall out on their own; there's no need for you to come back, and it seems there's no risk of infection." Bethany smiled slightly after helping Dominic with his back wound.

"Well, then that's it."

"Are you a soldier?"

Dominic turned around and said slowly, "I wasn't until recently; I volunteered to help the military with containment."

"Do you have any issues with what's being done in this place?"

Bethany looked at Dominic's calm expression and pointed out, "It's not that it was wrong but necessary; I just want to know if you have any problems."

"My loved ones died at the hands of the infection; they were bitten, so my role in all of this was to shoot them. They died, and I understand the pain of losing a loved one that way; I don't want anyone else to suffer if I can help it." Dominic spoke half-truths and half-lies.

In this new world, he did care about the people who had chosen to follow him, but that didn't mean he would be a caretaker for those who were practically useless. People must strive if they want to live; those who depend too much on him wouldn't have the right to live alongside him.

"I'm sorry to hear that." Bethany couldn't say more after hearing Dominic's tragic story.

"Don't apologize; I did what I had to do." Dominic thanked her for helping with his wound.

As he walked away from the sick bay, he headed back downstairs and saw the number of people gathered here increasing.

"What if we make a deal? You'll take my watch in exchange for telling me what they're doing with the people they're taking from here." Victor showed his watch to one of the soldiers.

Dominic could tell from the start that Victor, being a businessman, would be reliable as long as he had a product. That is, if it's well secured, he can do great things without having ethics or morals for others.
