Attack of the Unseen

Later in the evening that day, both kids are in Gwenn's room. Isaiah is drawing, and Gwenn is sitting on her bed reading a sci-fi novel. All of a sudden, they hear a voice.

                                               "Guys?" Their mom called out.

Their heads rise from their activities as they try to listen carefully to the voice again.

                                               "Hello?!" their mom shouts out.

The siblings look at each other then bolt out of the room, heading downstairs. After running down the stairs together, they meet with their mom. The three are glad to be reuniting again.

                                                "Wait, where's dad?" Gwenn questions.

"Oh, he's just a couple of days behind on his trip, that's all." She answers.

She shrugs her shoulders.

"Also, why are you wet?" Kim asks while looking down at Isaiah's pajamas.

Isaiah stays silent.

"Minor accident." Gwenn says, nervously chuckling.

"Okay, well, Isaiah go run the water for the shower you're about to take; I'll check on you in a minute," Kim says.

Isaiah remains silent. He then turns around and heads toward the bathroom. Silence fills the room before Gwenn and Kim converse again.

"What's going on with your brother?" Kim asks.

Her voice is filled with concern. Gwenn hesitates for a moment before responding, choosing her words carefully.

"He's been acting strange ever since he got home, I don't know." Gwenn responds.

"I'm going to end up taking him to the hospital tomorrow to see what's going on. His neck started hurting him out of nowhere and I don't know what else to do," Kim says shrugging her shoulders, not knowing what else to do about the situation.

Gwenn then shrugs her shoulders.

"When you can, can you bring my stuff upstairs to my room? I'm going to try to talk to your brother for a minute," Kim says.

She places her coat on the rack.

Gwenn nods her head. As Kim walks away toward the bathroom, Gwenn watches her. She breathes nervously with relief once her mom is out of sight. She looks at her mom's luggage and brings her stuff upstairs.

It is now 9:43 PM. The house grows darker. Now that Isaiah's clean, he's in bed talking to his mom. She's rubbing his head as she sits on the edge of his bed.

"Are you feeling better? I noticed you weren't yourself when I came home earlier." Kim wonders.

"I just feel like I don't need to go to a hospital tomorrow. I promise you I feel a lot better," Isaiah exclaims.

"Where did you get the idea you're going to a hospital?" she asks.

Isaiah looks down at his blanket and then back up at his mom.

"I heard you and Gwenn talking about it," he says depressingly. She sighs.

"It's somewhere you need to be based on how your neck is right now. I don't want it to get worse," she says

"But," Isaiah says before his mom interrupts.

                                 "You're going," she states.

Isaiah sighs, feeling defeated, then yawns out of exhaustion.

"Plus, you need your sleep; it's getting late," his mom informs him.

Getting up from his bed, she tuckes Isaiah into bed and then walks toward his bedroom door. Isaiah interrupts her suddenly.

"I just don't understand what's wrong with me," he says.

His mom stops, then turns back, walking toward his bed again. She kneels to his bed level, and Isaiah sits up on his bed.

"I promise nothing's wrong with you. Your neck is just something that needs to get checked out, that's all. Okay?" she informs.

Isaiah nods his head.

"You're going to be fine, I promise," she says.

Isaiah nods his head again. She gives a goodnight kiss to Isaiah's head, kneels up, and then leaves the room, closing the door behind her and shutting off his light. Meanwhile, Isaiah gets comfortable in his bed.

Moments after leaving his room, she slowly walked towards the middle of the stairs. She has a worried look on her face. When she gets to the middle of the stairs, she sees Gwenn watching her favorite show and eating Isaiah's unfinished lunchables.

"You're still up?" Kim asks her.

"I just can't sleep, that's it," she answers.

All of a sudden, their small conversation is interrupted by some horrific noise and Isaiah screaming. Gwenn jumps up, and Kim rushes to his room. As she runs to his room, the hallway and living room lights flicker. Kim bolts into his room, turns on his light, and sees his bed shaking from under him. Feeling terrified, she gasps, covering her mouth with one hand. She has never seen anything like this. Kim immediately jumps up on Isaiah's bed, trying to stop it from shaking. Suddenly, something forces Isaiah onto his backside, resulting in him plopping onto his bed moments later. His eyes roll to the back of his head. His eyes are now entirely white. He groans with his mouth open. He starts to gurgle bubbles in his throat, breathing heavily. All of a sudden, he stopped. That immediately got his mom's attention. In the middle of this chaos, she is terrified and has no clue what to do next.
