The Abbot could only respond this way.

"Abbot, there are only twelve of the Twelve Demons, but aren't there more than twelve demons in the world? There are surely tens of thousands!"

Yibai put down the vegetarian meal in his hand and said as much.

"Not to conceal the truth from you, I too don't understand this matter. I have read myriad Buddhist scriptures, and they often say that practicing the Buddhist Law is for self-liberation, to escape the sea of suffering. But I have occasionally come across a passage in the scriptures that says the Buddhist Law is divided into 'Hinayana' and 'Mahayana'. Hinayana is for self-liberation, while Mahayana Buddhism is for liberating others, which might require attaining Mahayana Buddhism to unlock the answers you seek."
