Chapter 1366: Mysterious Feast (16)_3

This was his way of seeking security and a sense of existence, but regardless of the cause, his symptoms harmed those around him. Lorna, Wanda, and Pietro were all relatively minor victims compared to Charles who, after many years of friendship with Magneto, was undeniably the primary victim.

"Charles, you really don't understand. That woman chose the country over you once. No matter how many times, she will never choose you."

Magneto Erik's deep voice reverberated in the guest room of the Fairy Palace. He stood in the middle of the room, looking at Charles who was sitting on the edge of the bed and said, "A youthful romance doesn't mean much. If you went to her now, you would only reveal your weaknesses for her to exploit remorselessly."

"Erik." Charles called out his old friend's name a bit helplessly, and said, "You're being too harsh about Lilandra. Besides, I'm not looking to reconcile with her. She is a married woman now, and I plan no interference in other people's families. I just want to reminiscence about old times with her."

"Did you reminisce all the way onto the bed? Hmm?" Erik tossed his cloak and said, "Stop pretending. Your legs have long since recovered, and you can't play helpless any more. You can't fool me."

Magneto sighed, "Conditions for mutants are getting better and better. Why won't you cherish these rare good times? Is recalling the past so important to you?"

"Yes, Erik, the past is very important to me." Charles lowered his head, his voice like the last low note of a string ensemble's finale.

"You always avoid recalling the past because it's too painful for you, but many answers lie in those past memories. You strive to maintain the status quo and eagerly look forward to the future, but you never stop to look back at the past."

"Whose past? Yours with that woman?"

"No, our past." Charles said, looking into Magneto's eyes.

Looking past Charles' still calm demeanor, and out the window of the guest room, Rocket Raccoon was standing on a balcony around the corner to the right of the palace, stretching his neck and looking across, "My God, what's their relationship?" he questioned, sounding amazed.

Behind him, Wanda and Shiller were also craning their necks to look across. Shiller rubbed his chin and said, "It's hard to say."

"I told you, there must be something between those two!" One of Wanda's eyes was larger than the other, and she pulled up the corner of her mouth, saying with a strange expression, "If not, how could Charles stand Erik for so many years?"

"So, does Charles prefer Lilandra or Erik now?" Wanda mumbled to herself, looking a bit surprised. After a pause, she said, "I wouldn't mind being related to Professor Charles, after all, he's a good person and takes care of me. But what's this about Lilandra?"

"If we want to know exactly what's going on, why don't we go back and see?"

Just then, a voice rang out from the rear of the balcony. Shiller, Wanda, and Rocket Raccoon all turned their heads to see Strange holding the Time Gem, wearing a slight smile.

"Today, when I visited Professor Charles, I discovered this...in the rug seam at his bedroom door."

Strange extends a hand, holding between two fingers a cluster of tiny fluff, so fine it was almost invisible.
