Anna's Husband

According to the timeline, Anna met Zane even earlier than Lorna did.

During Zane's most confused and impatient phase, only Anna could bring him moments of joy.

Anna's importance in Zane's heart was obvious.

But the more he valued her, the less Zane could interfere with the life Anna wanted to lead.

Lorna, noticing Zane standing dazed in the living room, curiously approached and nudged him.

"Dear, what's wrong?"

"Nothing. Let's call Anna and have a family gathering. It's been so many years since we've seen her."

"Okay, I miss Sister Anna too."

With that, Zane retrieved his almost forgotten phone from his treasury and dialed Anna's number.

Meanwhile, on the other side of New York City, Anna was sitting on a sofa with her head resting on the shoulder of a carefree man. She was eating chips and watching TV when she heard the phone ring. Without even looking, she answered the call.

"Hello, who is this? Just so you know, I don't buy insurance, I don't buy lottery tickets, so I can't win anything. I have no relatives in trouble, and I have no children. Now, what else do you have to say?"

Hearing Anna's rapid-fire speech, Zane was momentarily speechless. He looked at the phone screen to make sure he had dialed correctly. How had Anna become so quirky? What had life done to her?

"Check the caller ID," Zane said stiffly.

"Caller ID? No one usually calls me at this time."

Anna muttered to herself but instinctively glanced at the caller ID. It clearly read "Little Boss."

Anna's whole body stiffened, and she subconsciously looked at the man beside her.

"Now you know who I am?" Zane's voice came through the phone. Anna quickly put the phone back to her ear, her expression a mix of surprise and nervousness.

"Boss, you're back?"

"Yes, we're back. Come to my house for dinner tonight, and remember to buy groceries."

"Okay, okay..."

Anna hastily hung up the phone and exchanged a silent look with the man beside her.

"What do we do? The boss is back!"

After a moment, Anna broke the silence, sounding slightly nervous. Of course, she wasn't nervous for herself but for the man next to her.

"It's okay. The boss was bound to find out sooner or later. Whether we die now or later, it makes no difference."

The man took a deep breath, grabbed Anna's slightly cold hand due to her nerves, and comforted her.

On the other end, Zane stared in shock at the abruptly ended call. Anna seemed odd.

But Zane didn't think much of it. With the powers he had left on Earth to protect her, no force could harm Anna unless they had a death wish.

Zane assumed it was just the sudden news of his return that had startled her.

Little did he know, the two people on the other end of the call were thoroughly panicking because of it.

In the evening, Anna, feeling anxious, led the man to the villa's door and pushed it open. With her authorization, she didn't need to knock.

Zane, who was in the living room with Lorna, browsing through the changes on Earth over the past few years, instinctively turned his head when he heard the commotion.

"Anna, did you bring the groceries..."

Halfway through his sentence, Zane's eyes widened as he stared directly at the man Anna had brought with her.

"You two?" Zane pointed at Anna and then at the man beside her, looking utterly bewildered.

"That's right, we're together, and we're already married."

Seeing Zane's reaction, Anna's initial nervousness disappeared. She calmly raised her hand to show Zane and the others her wedding ring.

"Boss, long time no see." Constantine said with an awkward smile, avoiding eye contact.

Indeed, the man was none other than Zane's subordinate, Constantine.

"You really did a great job with the task I gave you!" Zane said slowly, his face dark but a hint of a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.

Constantine didn't know how to respond to Zane's words and could only manage a stiff smile while scratching the back of his head.

"Boss, you can't blame him. I was the one who pursued him," Anna quickly stepped in front of Constantine, trying to ease his discomfort.

Seeing their defensive stance, Zane suddenly burst into laughter.

"If you two are together, then you're together. Why so nervous? I'm not going to eat you."

Constantine was dumbfounded by Zane's reaction. Before coming here, he had imagined Zane might be furious or might coldly separate him and Anna. But he had never expected Zane to react this way.

It might be hard to understand why Constantine thought Zane would react differently. But it's quite understandable.

When Constantine first interacted with Anna, their only common topic was Zane. Mostly, it was Anna talking about her experiences with Zane while Constantine listened.

As the saying goes, 'Those involved can't see clearly, but bystanders can.' Anna might not have realized the role she played in Zane's life, but Constantine, with his wealth of experience, did.

Anna had unconsciously taken on the role of an older sister to Zane. In Zane's most confused period upon arriving in the Marvel world, it was Anna who helped manage his life. After Zane established his company, Anna helped with all the miscellaneous tasks and handled all the diplomatic affairs. She even occasionally came over to Zane's house for meals.

This relationship clearly went beyond that of a mere employer and employee—it was more like a caring older sister. Meanwhile, Constantine had only interacted with Zane for a few brief hours, making him purely a subordinate.

In other words, Constantine, the employee, had eloped with his boss's sister in the boss's absence. From this perspective, his fear was entirely reasonable.

Moreover, given the series of actions Zane had taken on Earth, Constantine, who hadn't spent much time with Zane, instinctively viewed Zane as a tyrannical figure.

So, in this context, it's no wonder Constantine was terrified. He was scared to death!
