Deal Failed

Constantine shook his head and led Zane upstairs into his home.

When the two were sitting facing each other, Constantine asked solemnly:

"As a dying man, what do I have that's worth trading with someone like you?"

"It's simple. I want a way for living people to enter Hell or Heaven. If you have it, I can cure your cancer," Zane said with a smile.

Yes, that was Zane's purpose for this trip. In Mephisto's knowledge, there was only a way to smuggle from Hell to the mortal world, and the price was so great that Zane couldn't accept it. In the original work, Constantine had several times been able to enter and exit Hell as a living person without seemingly paying any price, so that's why Zane personally came to find him.

Upon hearing Zane's words, Constantine began to ponder. It wasn't that he doubted whether Zane could cure his cancer; the power fluctuations he felt in the hospital couldn't be faked.

He was pondering Zane's origins. If he were an angel or demon descended into the mortal world, he wouldn't need to make such a deal with him.

"Are you human?" Constantine asked in confusion.

"Of course!"

"How is that possible? How could a human possess such power?" Constantine said incredulously.

"John Constantine, the world is vast, and there are many things beyond common sense. Just like in the eyes of ordinary people, God is only a fictional existence, but He does live in Heaven, doesn't He?" Zane glanced meaningfully at Constantine.

After a while, Constantine finally calmed down and accepted Zane's existence.

He shook his head with a bitter smile.

"Sorry, I don't have a way for you to enter or exit Hell. As for Heaven, it has always kept me out."

After hearing this, Zane frowned. He began to feel a little impatient...

"Constantine, if you refuse the deal, I don't mind pulling your soul out and finding what I want from it."

As the threat fell, the immense pressure descended on Constantine once again.

"Really, I don't have it. My method is just exploiting loopholes in the rules, and those loopholes can only allow someone like me to pass through."

"You're too powerful. You can't possibly pass through that loophole."

As he spoke, Zane kept monitoring Constantine's soul fluctuations. After confirming that he wasn't lying, Zane reined in his power.

Constantine, on the other hand, stared tightly at Zane. Seeing Zane's disappointed expression, he tensed all his muscles, ready to flee at any moment.

Although he knew that his chances of surviving under Zane's hands were less than one in ten thousand, even ants cling to life; he wasn't ready to die yet.

Constantine wasn't afraid of death; he feared the consequences after death. He had attempted suicide when he was just over 15 years old, so Heaven's gates had been closed to him ever since. Despite sending countless hybrid demons back to Hell over the years, that old bastard God still paid him no mind.

Now, if he died, he would definitely go to Hell, where he would face endless torment.

But Zane, watching Constantine's nervousness, remained unfazed, even finding it slightly amusing. Although he was selfish, he wasn't insane enough to kill someone just because they didn't suit his preferences; otherwise, the original Tony Stark would have died countless times over.

Last night, after learning about the hidden settings of the [Realm of Dead], Zane immediately thought of Heaven and Hell. Heaven and Hell were never short of souls; accumulated over thousands of years, they likely had billions of souls.

If he could bring all these souls into the [Realm of Death], Zane could possibly accumulate enough faith power and ascend to godhood instantly, relying on the vast number of undead believers. He didn't believe he wouldn't know the attributes of his power by then.

So, today's deal seemed to have been a wasted trip.

Since Constantine didn't have what he wanted, staying here would be a waste of time. Zane ignored Constantine and teleported directly back to the mansion.

After Zane left, Constantine suddenly relaxed, unaware that his clothes were soaked with cold sweat.

But none of that mattered. Constantine was just glad to have kept his life. It seemed that despite the opponent's strength, they weren't unreasonable beings like those bastards in Hell and Heaven.

He walked to the liquor cabinet and grabbed a bottle of strong alcohol, not bothering with a glass, and took a swig straight from the bottle.

Letting the alcohol burn down his throat and stomach, the intense sensation eased his tense nerves. After downing half the bottle, Constantine placed it on the chair, his mind blank.

At that moment, Constantine's friend, Beeman, entered, carrying a briefcase containing demon-hunting equipment for Constantine.

Seeing Constantine's absent-minded state, Beeman hurriedly set down the briefcase and anxiously asked, "John, are you okay?"

Startled by Beeman's voice, Constantine stared blankly at him and suddenly uttered a sentence that made Beeman question life itself.

"Beeman, today I saw a deity walking among us, in London!"

"Impossible. Angels and demons cannot descend to Earth. Where would this deity come from?"

Constantine didn't answer Beeman's question. Such things would never be believed unless witnessed firsthand.

"Beeman, do you think humans can become gods?" Constantine asked, his eyes devoid of life, staring at the ceiling.

"Of course not... Wait a minute, I seem to recall from some ancient texts that God was initially a human."

Beeman was about to dismiss Constantine's ludicrous idea but suddenly remembered a passage from an ancient text. Initially, he had thought it was just fiction, but now, seeing Constantine's reaction, maybe, just maybe, there was some truth to this absurd notion!

Shaking his head, Constantine pushed aside this mind-boggling question and put on a carefree smile, looking at Beeman.
