Chen Mumu shifted uncomfortably in her seat. This wasn't the first time she was having dinner with her father, but it was certainly the first time they were dining alone. What made her even more uneasy was the fact that he had been smiling the entire time. She had never seen him like this, especially during their family dinners at the Chen household. Those meals were always tense, with the food, though delicious, feeling impossible to swallow.
Chen Mumu stared at him and said, "You shouldn't have done this."
Chen Murong looked at her and replied, "You are my daughter, after all. I've been feeling quite sorry for neglecting you like I have. This is just dinner. Don't think too much of it."
There had been times when Chen Mumu had longed for a moment like this. She had waited years for this kind of day. Yet, even now, it felt like it had come too late. She looked at her father and laughed softly, but with a hint of bitterness.
"Just dinner?"
