The Divine One (Book 1)

Hey Rose, happy birthday..." One of the popular kids in school, Mia Jolson, waved. Rose waved back and more persons said hello as she walked by - persons she had never spoken to in her 19, no, 20years of living. She hadn't expected these much people to come to her birthday party. She wasn't the most social person but she wasn't antisocial either; she just liked to mind her business. She was tough when she needed to be, so she hardly came across bullies even with her sad and laughable past.

Isabella Rossi was her foster sister and it had been her handwork to invite the whole school to her house party - courtesy of her reputation as the school's most popular blogger.

Speak of the devil - Isabella walked up to her and wrapped an arm around her shoulder. She was nineteen, petite and really pretty. She was quite the attention seeker, but Rose couldn't blame her - when you've got a face card as nice as hers, you would seek attention too.

Rose on the other hand, didn't like being wooed by college boys. She just wasn't interested in them and would always turn them down when they tried to woo her. She liked grown ass men who were responsible for themselves and not college boys who were still being spoon fed by their mummies and daddies.

"What's popping my favourite redhead?! You look tensed and that is not a state you should be in right now! This is your birthday party for fuck's sake!" Isabella exclaimed excitedly, she spent most of her childhood in the United States so, her Italian accent wasn't there. She began jumping to the dance music playing at the background.

Rose opened her mouth to speak but Isabella interrupted her with a gasp, "I know exactly what you need to stay jiggy," She said and left her to go meet Adam. Rose smiled as Adam made eye contact when Isabella pointed her way. She has had a crush on him since 5th grade and he liked her too. He was a player no doubt, but Adam Wesley behaved a bit differently from other boys.

He neither smoked nor drank, didn't use foul language all the time and always smelled nice. He wasn't her perfect man but he was okay and his blue eyes made her feel tingly inside anytime he looked at her.

Even though she wanted to try going for him, it was too much trouble. He was a shameless flirt and she would rather save herself the inevitable heartbreak. To prove her point, his ex-girlfriend, Chanel, whom he had just broken up with two days ago, still had her eyes fixed on him like a hawk.

lsabella came back with something in her hands, "Open your mouth," She commanded.

"What's that? Molly?" Rose questioned. They weren't junkies but they knew how to have fun. Moreover, being high was super cool - it made you feel free and confident to do whatever the fuck you wanted. Who wouldn't want that? 

"Just open your mouth," Isabella repeated.

Rose opened her mouth and she put in some tiny pills.

"Now, swallow..." She told her with a smirk. Rose swallowed and afterwards, gave her an inquisitive look.

"That's a higher form of ecstasy you just took in my dear friend. Get ready to be wild!" Isabella grinned and left her to go meet her new boyfriend, Jason Venturi.

It was hardly some few minutes when the world started spinning. She felt an adrenaline rush; her blood pumped real fast. She was so free that when anyone walked up to her, she would greet them giddily and even strike up conversations.

She looked across the room to catch Adam staring at her and she locked his gaze.

He began approaching while she waited confidently. He has never noticed her before so this was new but she didn't care, her heart rate increased in excitement and she loved it.

He was close to her when she felt a sharp pain pierce her skull.

"Fuck." She whispered and lifted her hand to cradle her temple. A hand touched hers at that moment, and she looked up to see his pretty blue eyes peering at hers - the tingles returned, masking the pain.

"Are you okay?" He asked.

Rose nodded. 

"Yeah, yeah...what about you?" She asked, hoping she didn't stutter.

"First of all, I really love your party." He said and gave her his mega watt smile. Rose felt her heart beat rapidly. This guy was wanted by all the girls in school and they were probably burning holes into her head right now for daring to talk to him but all it did, was make her want him more especially now that she was on cloud 9.

"Wanna get out of here?" She asked him sultrily.

He smirked, his eyes glinting with interest, "As the lady pleases." He replied.

They snuck out of the party and she lead him to her room. She locked the door and approached him sensually.

"You sure you wanna do this?" He rasped when she got close.

Rose had never been more sure of anything in her entire life. She made the move and planted a kiss on his lips. Much to her excitement, he didn't hesitate to kiss her back. His hands roamed and held onto her waist. He pulled her closer and softly bit her bottom lip. She gave him access to play with her tongue and gosh, did he know how to play! She moaned at the softness of his mouth. What could be better than this?

The pain returned, forcing her to break the kiss. She whimpered as it became more intense.

"Are you okay? Are you reacting to the drugs?"

Adam asked worriedly but his voice sounded far away. Soon enough, the pain subsided and she could now hear him clearly.

"Rose?" He panicked.

She gasped and looked at him, "I am fine, I am fine..."

Gosh, she had ruined such a good time!

"You need to rest. I think the ecstasy's having some side effects in your body," Adam told her. She nodded and sat on the bed, feeling a bit embarrassed and disappointed.

"Should I get Isabella?" He asked but she shook her head quickly.

"Leave her alone. I will be fine, I just need to rest, that's all." She replied with a fake smile.

He nodded, "Um, I will let her know you're resting, okay?" He said and without waiting for her reply, he left her alone to her thoughts.

Rose pulled off her sandals, placed her legs properly on the bed, and grabbed her pillow. She put her face down and screamed into it.

Rose...

A sinister voice called out followed by evil laughter. Rose stood in the cold darkness, staring into the abyss. Every hair in her body stood erect as a chilly breeze caressed her skin.

"Who are you?! What do you want?!" She panicked. Where was she? What was going on?

"Rose!" The voice called out, louder this time.

She shook in fear as the sinister laugh came again.

"That's it, wiggle like a vermin that I would soon crush under my feet!" The voice said.

Rose looked around desperately but there was no one around her except darkness - pure, unadulterated darkness.

"Who are you?!" She asked again.

The laughter came.

"I am your worst nightmare!" The voice growled and suddenly two red eyes appeared from the shadows.

Rose screamed into reality, Isabella rushed into her room and turned on her bedside lamp.

"Rose, are you okay?!" She called out worriedly and sat down beside her. Rose couldn't speak, her words were locked in her throat.

"Rose...speak to me!"

Rose swallowed nervously and nodded, "Y-yes, I am fine...it was just a terrible nightmare."

"Do you want to tell me what it was about?" Isabella asked softly.

She shook her head, "It's not important. I just want to go to bed."

"Would you like me to stay the rest of the night with you?" Isabella asked.

Rose didn't hesitate and nodded in response.

"Alright. Go in..." lsabella said and joined her on the bed. Rose rested her head on her pillow and listened to the click of a button as Isabella turned off the lamp.

"So, did anything happen with you and Adam?" She asked after she got comfortable.

"Goodnight, Bella." Rose told her quietly and listened to her chuckle. She tried not to think about the nightmare as she slept off.
