Chapter 116

A lot of cars are passing by the road.

On the other side, there is a very old bar that looks like it came straight out of a Western movie.

"It's a country bar, great!"

Speedy exclaimed, with all his sarcasm.

"What is a country?"

Starfire asked curiously.

"It's a very popular music genre; places like this follow the same style."

Dio answered her.

"It sounds so cool; I'll go ahead!"

Starfire's excitement took over, and she flew over the road in the direction of the bar.

"Meanwhile, where should we go?"

Kaldur'ahm asked.

"While knowing Constantine, he's definitely at the bar."

Robin answered.

Later, Dio has to find out what experience Robin had with Constantine to get that impression of him.

"I smell a vampire here too."

Andrew warned.

"Kírix, Starfire, we're going in. The rest of you keep an eye out."

Robin ordered.

"I'm going too. I want to know why there's a vampire here."

Andrew warned.

"A drink before the war wouldn't hurt."

John added.

They are not under Robin's control, so even when he is mad, he doesn't make a fuss.

"Let's go before she goes in."

Starfire was almost entering the bar, so Dio put his hands on Robin and John's shoulders to teleport them to the other side of the street.

Andrew turned into a bat and easily flew over the road.

"Starfire, wait!"

Dio shouted to Starfire, who already had her hand on the door.

She turned around and looked at him, almost begging for him to move faster.

Andrew turned back into a human on their side, and they all advanced slowly.

"Now let's go in, calmly!"

Dio warned her.

The loud music and smell of alcohol, food, sweat, and blood hit Dio as he entered.

There are bloodstains on the wall and a broken body on the left side of the bar.

In the middle of the bar, there was a man with his hand raised and a yellow light ball floating above him.

On the ground, there was a figure that looked like a person made of dust.

He killed the vampire.

"My lucky day, a vampire, a hunter, a bird, and an old man walk into a bar."

The man joked with a strong British accent.

Constantine wasn't very tall. He had messy blonde hair, a beard, and a cigarette in his mouth.

The only thing on his face that wasn't a mess was the blue sky in his eyes.

The clothes he was wearing that matched his face were a plain white shirt, blue jeans, a loose red tie, and a beige long coat that goes down to his knees.

It was dusty, and his clothes were wrinkly.

He may look that way, but it's his smell—a strong blend of old beer and cigarettes—that captures his attention.

After taking a good look at him, Dio looked at the yellow light ball floating above his palm.

Dio can feel the heat and a tremendous amount of ultraviolet light emanating from the light ball, which is like a miniature sun—the ideal weapon for battling vampires.

Constantine didn't pay them any more attention after his joke and extinguished the light ball before taking a lighter from his pants pocket and moving it towards the cigarette in his mouth.

"What happened here?"

Robin asked while looking at the body on their side.

"Bloody Hell!"

Constantine cursed and was unable to light the lighter.

It was then that Dio remembered a promise he made to Zatanna.

Before, Dio thought she was joking with him, and it might be just that. He was just making an excuse to do this.

Constantine lifted his head the moment his slap hit his left cheek.

"BANG!"

The force of the blow was so great that he spun in the air and flew towards the bar counter.

"Kírix!"

Robin shouted in shock.

The force Dio used now was enough to kill an ordinary human, but Constantine is not an ordinary human.

He felt something enveloping his body just before his slap hit him. Dio slowed down just enough to give him a chance to defend himself.

"That fucking hurt!"

Constantine hit the bar counter with his body and broke it.

He got up and brushed off his clothes as if nothing had happened.

On his body, a yellow aura was covering him, like a very thin second skin—an aura that disappeared.

"I like this music!"

The tense mood was definitely ruined by Starfire, who was just enjoying the music.

With things calmer and the full attention of their new acquaintance, Robin, Starfire, and Dio sat on the stools in front of the bar counter.

Andrew and John scanned the bar with the others while looking for other nearby vampires.

Meanwhile, Constantine was helping himself to a generous shot of whiskey on the other side of the counter.

"I probably deserve worse than a slap, but we haven't met before."

Constantine pointed to the handprint that Dio had left on his face.

Constantine's magic protected him from serious damage, but his strength exceeded his expectations.

Dio raised his hand, and a wine bottle from the shelf floated into his grasp.

"I'm just doing a favor for a friend you offended."

Dio grabbed three glasses and started pouring the wine.

"Who?"

Constantine asked with curiosity.

"My teacher, Zatanna."

Constantine finally seemed a bit affected and froze with the glass near his mouth.

"Well, I certainly deserve this."

Constantine said and downed his glass in one go.

"What animal is that?"

Starfire asked and pointed to a mechanical bull at the end of the bar.

"That's a mechanical bull, dear. Do you want me to show you how to ride it?"

Constantine's gaze was so perverted that Dio almost spit out the wine he had in his mouth.

"Starfire, he's that kind of man."

Dio warned her before she could respond.

At that moment, Starfire's gaze changed into disgust for Constantine.

Dio taught her about a certain type of man since she was so innocent about some things.

Whenever he said those things, she trusted him fully and acted accordingly.

"Why is she looking at me as if we've been out before?"

Constantine asked.

"I don't want to interact with dishonorable men."

Starfire said while standing up from the stool, grabbing the wine bottle Dio left on the counter, and drinking it in one gulp.

"Thump!"

She slammed the empty bottle on the counter.

"I'll try to tame that beast."

Constantine walked away towards the mechanical bull.

"This is definitely worth the..."

"THUD!"

"Enough; we didn't come here to drink or listen to your nonsense, Constantine!"

Robin slammed the counter furiously.

"Calm down; I didn't know she already had an owner."

Before Robin could jump on him, Dio placed his hand on his shoulder to stop him.

"Constantine, Batman is recruiting people to handle the vampire situation. Can you help?"

Dio got straight to the point.

"Bats wants my help; what a surprise! Last time, he kicked me out of the city just because I was digging around an old magician's grave."

"That's because you intended to use magic to excavate a one hundred-meter-deep hole in the middle of the city!"

"I was going to fill it up after getting the artifact, and you should thank me, kid. I fulfilled your wish and turned you into a fine bird."

"Constantine, we're talking about a war. If Mary gains more power, millions will die."

Dio tried to express the seriousness of the situation to him.

"You're a second-rate magician, but you should know that death is just the beginning of things. Now that you know that, why does the number of deaths on Earth matter?"

'Is this guy serious? I really can't tell.'

Dio thought with annoyance.

Dio recalled that Constantine loves to be a jerk sometimes but always does the right thing.

It can only mean one thing if he's bothering them so much and going against that.

"What do you want, Constantine?"

He looked directly at Dio with his somber blue eyes when Dio asked.

"I heard you built a portal; I want a ride, mate."

Clearly, Dio had been led into this situation.

Constantine did not pretend to not know about his portal until this point in the conversation.

"You just want to use the portal and nothing else?"

Dio asked with curiosity.

"Round trip."

"And in return?"

"I help you a lot in the best way I can to sort out your vampire mess."

Dio thought for a moment before agreeing.

The fact that he didn't say anything about going with him doesn't make it a big deal for Dio to let him use his portal to the underworld.

"I agree; I'll let you use the portal once, but only after your help."

"Old rules?"

Constantine asked with a smile.

"Old rules."

Dio confirmeed.

Constantine extended his hand, and Dio shook it to seal a simple magical contract between the two of them.
