Chapter 7

Dio looked at the outside of the window, as riding was too boring.

Gotham City was very big. There were bridges connecting the six islands that made up the area. It looked like tall, black buildings were in every part of the city.

After half an hour, he finally arrived. As soon as the taxi stopped, Dio jumped out of the taxi without even bothering to say thanks and ran into the nearest alley to hide from people.

A bad habit that comes from stealing for a long time.

The Five Points district was located in the lower east part of the city, and Dio was almost there.

After a few minutes, Dio finally reached my destination - the Gotham City Police Department.

The internet mentioned there's even a basement floor in this old four-story building. It used to be a jail but was changed into something else after many criminals escaped.

When Dio approached his destination, he naturally didn't enter through the main entrance. There are many police cars in front of the building.

Dio went around it from the back; it was empty except for rats eating the trash that had been left behind.

The reason Dio is here is quite simple.

While studying this place on the school computer, he saw that besides the main and side entrances to the building, there's another way to the roof—an external fire escape.

It didn't take much effort to jump to the edge of the stairs and hold on to it; then he immediately started to climb.

The stairs are connected to the windows on each floor, so he had to be extremely careful not to be seen.

He managed to get past the first two floors without any problems. Their attention was focused on their work, so no one on the other side of the window saw him.

In addition, the last two floors were empty, which made it simple.

Finally, Dio reached the roof of the GCPD. The roof was almost completely empty, with the only unique thing being a projection of Bat-Signal in the center.

There is a bat symbol on the lens of what looks like a huge projector pointed upwards.

The signal is something like a legend in Gotham; Batman has been working for many years.

A signal shows up in the clouds, and everyone knows what it is, but no one is sure where it comes from.

Dio put his bag on the floor. It was empty when he got home from school and full of things that could be useful.

He took out a rough iron chain and went to the only exit to the roof besides the fire escape.

Dio locked the door with a chain and a hanging lock. It would take a little longer for the cops to get here.

It was likely that Batman would come here first when Dio turned on the signal, but if the cops came first, everything he had done would have been for nothing.

Finally, everything was ready.

After taking a deep breath to calm down, Dio walked over to the Bat-Signal and pressed the button on the back of it without hesitation.

At that moment, the Bat-Signal turned on and sent a beam of light into the night sky.

The beam made the shape of a bat appear in the clouds. He just had to wait, so he sat down in front of the Bat-Signal and waited.

After half an hour of waiting in the cold, there was finally some movement.

However, it wasn't the kind of movement I expected. On the other side of the door leading to the police department, a voice shouted.

"WHO TURNED ON THE SIGNAL WITHOUT MY PERMISSION?"

A man shouted who was climbing the stairs at that moment.

"Bang! Bang!"

He began pounding the door hard to open it.

"Who's on the roof? I swear to God, if you don't open this door in two seconds, you'll regret it."

He shouted again and repeatedly pounded on the door.

"Batman could have been a bit quicker,"

Dio said it out loud. He was already a little cold from the long wait.

"I'm here!"

Dio didn't expect a response.

Dio jumped when he heard the cold, harsh voice and lost his balance. He fell and rolled over on his back.

When he turned my head, he saw a man standing where he should have been sitting.

This guy came up to him without making a sound, which scared him so much that his heart almost stopped.

"Why did you activate the signal?"

Batman asked with his rough voice.

The suit was mostly gray, with two small points sticking out of the hood and the cape that covered almost his whole body. A black bat, the same color as the hood and cape, was on his chest.

He didn't look angry that I had turned on the Bat-Signal; Dio couldn't be sure since there was no expression on his face.

But he could feel his gaze watching him.

In response to his question, all Dio could say was, "I want to report a crime."

He remained silent, but Dio took it as a sign to continue.

"In fact, there were several crimes, but wouldn't it be better to inform the police outside first? They're about to break down the door, and I don't trust them very much."

Batman stared at me for a few seconds while the banging on the door grew louder, then he turned his back to me and pulled something from his belt, throwing it directly at the chain I had hung to secure the door.

The door swung open with force as the chain broke.

"Batman?"

A person was standing on the other side of the door.

Batman stood in front of Dio and blocked both him and the person in front of him from seeing who it was.

"Can we talk, Commissioner?"

Batman asked.

"It's okay, guys; you can get back to work."

James "Jim" Gordon said this while giving orders to his people, who were probably with him.

Dio heard footsteps and the door closing.

"What was that about?"

Jim asked and was clearly annoyed by everything that had just happened.

Instead of answering, Batman only turned around to show me, which confused Jim.
