[You are now able to appoint [Jury]]
'Jury? Who are juries again?'
Aster racked his brain trying to remember who were juries and what they did.
'They say judge, jury and the executioner right? So it has to be something to do with the legal system, the court specifically it seems.'
'Let's check the new ability. My super high comprehension should do it's thing meanwhile.'
Ability: [Phantom flame]
[Ability effect: Gains the ability to use one's own negative emotions to enhance the destructive property of fire magic. The degree of enhancement depends on the strength of the emotion]
[Skills within the ability:
-Negative fireball- The skill to instantaneously imbue negative emotions into the skill [Fireball]
-Negative flame stream- The skill to instantaneously imbue negative emotions into the skill [Flame stream]
'Ahh let's see, the skills doesn't have any level indicator, the ability itself doesn't have a mastery level either. This is weird.
…
Maybe the skills depend on their original counterpart, that would certainly explain it. As for the ability, it might be a special case like my unique skills.'
He glanced at [Overwrite], [Inscribe], [Rewrite] and [Erase].
'Let's try it'
He faced towards the sea and raised his arm.
[[Fireball] has been activated]
A fireball the size of a basketball appeared in the air. Aster set it off without aiming at particularly anything.
SWOOSH
It flew straight with a considerable amount of speed.
PLOP
HISS
It hit the water and some smoke hissed.
'Alright that's the strength of the current fireball. Onto the next one.'
He recalled some memories, not his memories but something he had seen from someone.
A boy being burned just because he wanted to protect his sister, a bastardly person abandoning his wife who's pregnant with his kid for a younger girl.
He recalled the scenes of pretty atrocious stuff.
His blood boiled and he lost some more faith for humanity.
[[Negative fireball] has been activated]
A normal fireball, the same size as before, appeared. A small tendrils of black and white fog protruded from his fingers and encircled the fireball like a snake before fusing with it.
Now, the fireball has turned into its cooler version.
With great deal of pain, he sent it flying.
'Come on, come on.'
He was expecting something like an atomic bomb.
HISS
'Bruh'
'I think it may have flown a little bit faster? Maybe trying fire magic on a body of water isn't the best testament of my intelligence.'
'But what is this pain though? Am I not immune to pain?'
'Arghhh, so frustrating'
"Ughh, dude?" Someone tugged his ripped sleeve.
"What?"
"There are two remaining and they aren't leaving" She said with a shaky voice.
"Huh? Ah!"
Two pale silhouettes could be seen not so far away.
One of them looked like a thin boy while the other looked like a soldier due to his big stature.
Unlike their first appearance when Aster used the skill, they had white eyes instead of the pitch black, abyssal eyes that seemed to absorb everything.
Their eyes were barely distinguishable from the rest of their bodies as they were the same color, the only way it was able to be seen as eyes was that they were highlighted by a small blue outline.
Aster interpreted their small change in looks as they were not vengeful anymore.
'Ahh, a few Complainants said they would become my assistants right? So it's them. I should go and talk to them.'
'On a second thought, let them come to me.'
Aster did not tear his prying eyes from the dead but did not let his guard down either.
He had the feeling of being watched and he did not like it.
'Maybe I'm being paranoid or maybe perception also measures my instinct.' He thought.
As the ghastly specters approached him, a yellow system window popped up in front of his face.
Not blue like the usual one but yellow.
[Whenever the judge judges a despicable person, the [Retribution] skill has the power to summon Complainants. They are considered to be the victim and they can be both alive and dead but if it's the former, they are not able to be summoned by the skill]
A soothing female, almost heavenly, voice narrated the contents of the screen.
The new voice seemed much more mature and alive than the monotone voice of the system. Aster could have sworn he heard the voice stop for a second and exhale.
[The more Complainants are present during the trial, the stronger the judge becomes]
[Once Complainants are satisfied with the judgment, they will return to the afterlife if they are dead. If they are grateful, they can bestow gifts upon the Judge]
[Those gifts can include their earthly possessions, some skills or knowledge]
[Sometimes, some Complainants will decide to stay and help the judge in his endeavor to uphold justice. Those can be appointed as [Jury].]
[The judge can ask the [Jury(s)] for opinions if he comes across a particularly difficult decision. If the person on trial is a former hero who saved millions but also killed millions or a former villian who has done some despicable things but is trying to reform and the Judge is unable to draw a conclusion, the majority vote between the jury will decide their fate]
[So it is advised for the Judge to gather a number of trusty juries to get varying opinions and different perspectives]
[Of course, the Judge is allowed to keep the spirits free if he wishes so. However remember that a Judge must remain neutral and uphold justice all over the world and not create his own faction]
[Doing so will tilt the balance in the universe and chaos would ensue]
[Remember, one rule of your role is to remain neutral at all times]
[As a side note: some spirits have a hidden agenda for wanting to serve the Judge. Weed out those and only appoint the trustworthy ones as [Jury]]
The heavenly voice stopped and Aster exhaled deeply. He had almost been enchanted by the voice which he was sure was impossible thanks to his [Incorruptible] trait.
Not a moment after, the spirits were upon him and he had to make a judgment again.
'Now, I know what to do with you guys.'
'The question is, are you worthy?'
