Thousands of years ago, on Titan, a group of Eternals lived a relatively peaceful and happy life away from their brethren who stayed back on Earth to fight the Deviants. These Eternals went against their creators', the Celestials, orders and created a society for themselves creating new Eternals themselves.

It was all going well, their society was thriving and then the rulers of the Eternals gave birth to a son. But this son came out deformed. He was purple and his face was very ugly like a monster. So much so that the moment his mother saw him for the first time, she tried murdering him.

And that was how Thanos came into the world. Due to his unusual appearance, he had a hard time getting along with others. He had no friends but because of his smartness, he did great in his studies and even wanted to become a scientist.

He was continually shunned by the Eternals society while his younger brother Eros was loved by all. It went on until at age 12 Thanos met a girl with black hair and black eyes. She was almost always dressed in black as well. She was the first to talk to him.

The girl talked to Thanos and kept him company all the time. She encouraged him to study more and learn why he is different from others. Thanos agreed but on the first day of dissecting an animal, he could not take it and ran out to vomit, vowing never to dissect anything again.

The girl consoled him and told him of a special place Thanos could go to and clear his mind with his friends. Thanos agreed with her and took his classmates along with him to the place the girl mentioned. It turned out to be a cave full of monsters and Thanos' classmates all died.

The girl then said that Thanos should kill all those monsters in revenge. And he did just that, going on a rampage and killing every last one of those creatures. After returning, the deaths of the kids who went with Thanos had made others alienate Thanos even more.

Even then, the girl kept encouraging him, and Thanos succumbed. He started to kill and study different animals getting very proficient at it. But he never found the answer to why he was different. The exclusion from society had never stopped the whole time.

While Thanos was down, the girl appeared and told him to experiment on his own kind, the Eternals so that he may find the answers he wanted. Thanos once again agreed and killed a couple and experimented on them.

But the disappearance of these people created a stir in the Eternals society where murders or disappearances were non-existent. Ridden with guilt, Thanos decided to stop the killings. But the girl mocked him for not acknowledging his true feelings.

After a lot of goading, Thanos admitted to enjoying killing and being in love with the girl. But the girl only mocked Thanos for being too weak to admit his own monstrous nature. Thanos in a bid to impress the girl kidnapped and killed his own mother.

Thanos later found out that the girl was the manifestation of death itself. But he didn't give up on his obsession and vowed to make death his lover. And thus, the sick and twisted love story of the mad Titan Thanos began.

After messing up Thanos and turning him into a murder machine, Mistress Death left. To impress her, Thanos knew that the only thing he could do was to kill more. And it was in one of these quests to kill living beings and find a more efficient way to murder more that Thanos had ended up on Earth.

Earth was saved at the time because of the efforts of the heroes fighting together and the fact that Thanos was still searching for the infinity stones. Despite losing on earth, Thanos continued his quest to kill but Mistress Death continued to dislike him. She even found a clown to be her lover.

Thanos had even been banished from Death's realm which meant that Thanos couldn't even die to go meet death. This toxic relationship would be the cause of many civilizations' downfall.

Thanos was now pissed. He wanted to show his worth to his love. He wanted to find the infinity stones and the infinity gauntlet to kill half of all beings in the universe. And this time, he wasn't alone. He had an advisor by his side, the hell lord Mephisto.

Nobody in their right mind would trust Mephisto to keep him by their side. The devil was at all times either lying and backstabbing or studying new ways to lie and backstabbing. But Thanos wasn't in the right mind, to begin with, and he was confident in himself. So, an unlikely partnership was formed.

If Thanos alone was a problem for the universe, Thanos and Mephisto partnering was equivalent to an emergency state.

Inside the soul stone, there existed an entire world on its own. And in that world somewhere, a golden man looked up at the sky. He was looking at the world itself and the soul stone that housed it. He had a deep connection with the soul stone and also had cosmic awareness.

And he could feel it now, there was a crisis approaching. A crisis so big that it would affect the entire universe. And he, Adam Warlock would have to go out of the world in the soul stone and stop this threat by himself. He looked back down and walked ahead, waiting for the time to return to the main universe.

At this point in time, the space stone was with the SHIELD, and the time stone was with Kamar-Taj. The soul gem was with the In-betweener. The power gem was with an elder of the universe called the Champion. The reality gem was with another elder of the universe called the Collector and finally, the mind gem was with the Grandmaster.

So, Thanos set out on a quest to gather all these gems. First, he went to the In-betweener. In-betweener was a being created by the personifications of Chaos and Order. They had put equal parts chaos and order into a being and he became the In-betweener.

Sometime during his existence, the In-betweener had found the soul gem and after that, he was banished to a place outside the real universe as a punishment for defying his creators, Lord Chaos and Master Order.

Thanos found the place quickly and approached the In-betweener who was trapped in a bubble. The In-betweener questioned Thanos about who he was and why he appeared there.

Thanos knew his situation and tried to appeal to the In-betweener's feelings, "I was in service of Mistress Death and I was never valued, I hate this servitude towards her. I know you are in a similar situation as mine. So I want us to work together to get out of our situations. I can be your subordinate if you are stronger than me."

Although the In-betweener was indecisive at first, he agreed with Thanos after some convincing. And thus they devised a plan to attack the bubble at the same time so that it would break.

As soon as the bubble broke and the In-betweener came out, he attacked Thanos with his powers of chaos and order but nothing happened. "Why? What did you do to me?" He screamed while trying to use his powers.

Thanos laughed as he ripped the Soul gem off of In-betweener's forehead. "You fool, your power comes from chaos and order. How will you use your powers outside reality where neither exist? The bubble your masters put you in was both a prison and a safety net where you could still use your power."

Thanos then punched away the erratic In-betweener and left from there on to find the next infinity gem before Lord Chaos and Master Order sensed that their servant was freed and arrived there.

His next target was the power gem. The power gem was with one of the elders of the universe. The elders of the universe themselves were immortal or long-lived beings whose own civilizations had long perished and only they remained of their kind. They all had different goals and ambitions but still formed a loose group, taking up different titles based on their attributes.

The Champion as his name suggests loved battles. Any kind of fighting was fine as long as it involved physical combat. In gladiator battles, wars, and brawls, he loved to win in physical combat. And he was in possession of the power gem.

And just like the In-betweener, the Champion was unaware of the true power or use of the infinity gem he was in possession of. The only thing he knew was fighting so he only subconsciously tapped into the gem's powers.

Having collected the information on his next target, Thanos set out again. He challenged the Champion to a duel with the power gem as the prize. The champion in his confidence and anger at being challenged, agreed.

During the whole fight, Thanos only dodged and taunted Champion, making him angrier. Thanos would get a few hits in but Champion who has only ever relied on brute force was having a hard time with Thanos. The anger kept rising until out of frustration of not being able to hit Thanos, Champion punched so hard that the planet they were fighting on shattered.

Thanos knew a fact about Champion that was, he could survive in outer space but couldn't fly. So, if Champion didn't want to drift forever in space, he had to hand over the power gem to Thanos. In the end, the Champion had to reluctantly agree to hand over the power gem to Thanos.

The next one was the reality gem that was with the Collector. Thanos once again began his preparations for his next conquest.

Author's Note: The information in this chapter is mostly a retelling of the comic storyline with some adjustments. Since not many people know comic storylines, I will use summarized storytelling to connect these storylines with my fanfic.
