A Fleeting Dream

The same seven gates, the same choice of choosing Ezith's gate. A flood of monsters and thousands of people dying right and left.

The people who had thought of well-deserved rest after completing three long and arduous trials lamented in despair as their hope crumbled under the march of a variety of monsters.

On one side was a large giant made up of half flesh and half bones. Its bones showed from time to time as it moved. It held onto a large hammer made up of entire bones.

But this giant's horror didn't just end here as following it were hundreds of minion zombie-like creatures.

On another side of the ruined city was a bunch of bees. They secreted a layer of miasma from their hive and flew into the air after impaling their victims with the stinger.

Ignoring the cries of their paralyzed victims they took off into the air, buzzing and enjoying the despair spreading in the atmosphere as they moved towards the hive to a massive honey bee, the queen.

The people who resisted both the attacks from the ground and air didn't last long as another kind of undead emerged right from the ground, encroaching on their victims in all ways one could only imagine.

They swallowed them right into their belly, melting them in the gastric juices only for them to be never heard from again. Men and women alike met the same end. It didn't matter how much powerful one was.

Against a well-rounded army of thousands of calamities, they succumbed to death.

Licht could feel their raw resolve and determination to be alive despite the despair that slowly entrapped them, telling them to accept the sweet release of death.

Licht was floating in the air, unable to move in this madness as screams erupted all around him.

Every time the humans faltered, they stood back up just to die in the hands of another creature, but not before taking down a dozen of them.

They overexerted them just to live one more moment, but this all crumbled when a mountain suddenly showed itself.

No, it flew right to them from the atmosphere, crushing hundreds of humans as well as calamities in that one attack.

No one could outrun its descent. Suddenly every little movement in the whole battlefield stopped as the dread didn't end there. The mountain was trembling.

….It was alive…The mountains trembled for another moment before they started to roll.

With every turn of its massive body, everything succumbed to death, friends and foes alike.

It all went on like this until a person popped into the air right beside Licht, its body calm and at rest as if the person didn't care about the massacre happening down there.

But contrary to his body position his…his face showed an enranged and disgusted expression. He said under his breath in a gibberish tone that Licht could somehow make out.

"How dare these undead try to kill my army, and these fuckers can't even do anything to the damned Corpsewyrm Devourer,"

"Fucking useless," he said as he lifted one of his fingers lifted in the air as he tapped something in the air.

But as if the air was to his commands, hundreds of chains erupted from nowhere in space and slowly stopped the rampage caused by the rotating mountain.

"Disgusting bastard," the man in ethereal clothes said, his voice echoing in the air.

The mountain, no…the calamity revealed its true form. The Corpsewyrm Devourer was made up of millions of bones, all entangled together into one bunch forming a complex yet hard network of them.

Under the bones beaten a mass of deadly blood as the calamity devoured both the blood and the bones from all the humans, it had killed.

But the most menacing thing about it was its face. It was a laughing skull fitted right into its body, its forehead right under the crimson-smirking moon as if striking a perfect balance.

The man with ethereal cloth's auro changed the more he gazed down at the smiling skull. As if having enough of this shit his hands moved in various ways.

And just like a conductor conducting an orchestra, his hands directed the slowly forming spears of air. The swirls emanating from these hundred-meter-long spears blew away the nearby calamities and dug themselves into the sockets of the chain.

They dug deeply into the bony outer shell of the creature despite the hardness of these millions of bones, the spears didn't stop one inch and kept going.

Every spear constricted tightly the more the calamity moved. It tried to free itself, but the man didn't let it.

Slowly all of the spears cut deep into its body, crushing the shell made out of bones.

With the shell of bones gone, the swirling mass of red blood, trembled from the inside as what was left of the skull laughed maniacally. Its laugh reached high seas and made the air quake as if it was starting the drum of chaos.

Realizing what the calamity was doing, the man's face turned into a serious expression as he released all the limiters on his body, and a grand aura slowly spread out of him.

His hair fluttered in the air as hundreds of spears far bigger than what had manifested before appeared all around the ruins, aimed right at the bloody ball.

And just like that dozens of them pierced straight through it one by one. With each passing spear beads of sweat appeared on the man's face.

But a satisfactory smile overtook his face, and why wouldn't he be smug? No one had survived this attack of his, not even far dreadful calamities.

But as if destroying all of his delusional, the red blood sphere was the same as what it was, nothing had changed around after the dust settled.

THUMP!

A loud sound occurred all around the ruins as the glass of every building broke one by one.

THUMP! THUMP!

The sound continued, occurring in rhythm like someone's heart was beating. But as the thumping continued the destroyed skull's laughter died down. Only to be replaced by something far more dreadful.

As a knight clad in blood-red armor stepped out of the blob of blood. It's lance pointed right where Licht was, towards the dreadful and anxious face of the man.
