Ch.16

With the earlier defeat from the 'Battle of the Bulge' Germany pulled all they had back for the final defense of Berlin. Charles and I pushed forward toward Berlin, we'd be the first to reach it for the Western Allies, as Russia had already begun surrounding the city from the East.

When we arrived we heard the sounds of constant battle ahead, with the Russians throwing everything they had at the Germans with no remorse for their own people's lives. Charles and I had our men begin to set up camp, as we were in no rush to attack right away. Unlike the Russians, we cared about our men, though as our men were setting up camp, Russian command came over to us.

"Are you going to assist us? You've been here for several hours now?" the Russian General says walking into our command tent with a very angry-looking face.

"We will assist the moment we can, unlike you we care about our soldiers well being," I say since I never liked the Russians' mindset of war.

"I think you mean we have more courage in our soldiers, they do not need to be handheld. They charge into the fray regardless if they die or not," the Russian General says to me with some annoyance and a smirk.

"Courage, funny to hear that from a man who most likely points his own gun at his men if they try to retreat instead of running to their deaths. Plus I doubt you even saw action yourself. I feel sorry for the men who have to fight among themselves to have a rifle," I say to him making him become very red in the face at my 'allegations'.

"You–" the Russian General starts to say looking ready to fight me.

"Enough! We need to get along and put an end to this war finally," Charles says stopping the argument from escalating further. The Russian General and I share one last look of annoyance toward one another before turning to Charles.

"So, what do you know about the German strongholds?" Charles asks the Russian General who walks over to the war map and begins to point out where they are holding the city.

We then spend the next hour 'discussing' plans for our men to attack. However, Charles had to mediate the conversation a lot since I was constantly pointing out the Russian General's plan flaws. Finally, we came up with a plan that everyone agreed upon. Charles and I then began relaying the orders among our men, as the Russian General went back to his men.

"Wana bet who will get to Hitler first?" Charles asks me right before we split up.

"Sure, though if the little bitch kills himself before we get to him the bet is off," I say knowing Hitler bitched out once he realized he lost the war.

"Deal," Charles says as we shake on it and go to our command vehicles.

I climb onto Fury and give a reassuring nod to Garcia who is now my M/Sgt. of the tank unit. We then begin to head into the city toward the constant fighting from the Russians and Germans. In my past life the Russians were the only ones who took the city, but this time it seems I have already started to change even history itself.

The push into the city was extremely slow and grueling, as the Germans were dug in like ticks desperately trying to hold the city. The worst part was the fact that Hitler deployed soldiers as young as fourteen. We still killed them as they were trying to kill us, but their deaths would scare us all for the rest of our lives.

We had to stop at every building and clear it out completely before moving on and this was a very compact and large city. Much of it was already destroyed from the bombing during the last few weeks, however, there were still many places for the soldiers to hide. So we had to slowly advance to ensure we'd not get backstabbed later.

"Jesus…" Garcia says after we see several teenagers gunned down who ran toward us with the intent to kill.

"Hitler is a sick fuck… Needs to be put down like a sick dog, though it seems he might just kill himself before anyone can get to him," I say as we push forward, with the only handful of German tanks we come across being half operational, making them very easy to destroy.

It took us several more hours to push further into the city reaching the center just as the Russians reached it too. With only the Moltke Bridge intact to cross to the Reichstag where Hitler and his top Generals should be. The Russians then ran across the bridge as German machine gun fire ripped into them.

My men were quickly setting up our machine guns firing back while our tanks were turning to the machine gun nests. With the explosions of cannon fire, the machine gun nests were destroyed. The Russians were then able to finish crossing the bridge with my men right behind them.

As we entered the area, the Germans were making their last stand outside the Reichstag. Though at this point they were outnumbered a hundred to one, and severely outgunned. We then killed the remaining guards, with me jumping down and heading into the Reichstag along with Russian command.

Inside we saw German soldiers trying to surrender, but the Russians killed them without a second thought. So some of the German soldiers ran over to our side trying to surrender, however, the only remaining soldiers were SS, so we killed them too. We entered the command room to see the German Commanders surrender.

They were taken in to be charged and publicly executed later. Then the how building was turned upside down for Hitler. However, there was no sight of him until a Russian soldier discovered a secret bunker inside the Reichstag. The bunker was finally opened up and inside we saw Hitler, his wife, and several guards who all appeared to have killed themselves.

'Seems he took his life in the end like a coward,' I think seeing one of the most infamous men who lived.

The soldier took his body and began parading it around in victory. The rest of the city then fell within the next few hours once the news spread. Like that, the end of the war in Europe had begun, with only the final steps ahead of it. My unit along with Charles's unit and the Russians occupied the city.

A couple of weeks later, Eisenhower arrived and took command from there. Then like in my past life history followed. The German armed forces surrendered unconditionally in the west on May 7 and in the east on May 9, 1945. Victory in Europe Day was proclaimed on May 8, 1945, amid celebrations in Washington, London, Moscow, and Paris.

My Unit stayed in Europe the following months to help bring stability back to the continent. During that time I searched for any information regarding the German Superwoman who attacked me. However, I found nothing, which means I might have to confront Vought as they may know something. However, I currently don't have the influence necessary for that.

Eisenhower also stayed with us, until he was called back along with me after Japan officially surrendered on September 2, 1945. There we went to the white house and were honored with several metals for our service in the war effort. Harry S. Truman was our current President, so as we arrived back home we both got in our fancy Uniforms before heading to the White House.

"Why did you recommend me?" I say to Eisenhower as we made our way to the White House.

"You deserve it, plus even without my recommendation, you have many people looking at you for several reasons. The first is your accomplishments in the War and the few that know the truth about what happened with Soldier Boy at Normandy. This will give you some semblance of security if you are a well-known War Hero and commander," Eisenhower says to me as we walk inside the White House and wait in one of the many rooms for the ceremony.

"If you say so," I say with a shrug and sigh since this will be the third time I was here for a medal ceremony.

Then as we were waiting the door to the room was opened, and with it, several people entered. One I don't recognize, though it seems to be the agent of the next person who I recognized. Soldier Boy walked through the door after having given his smug smile and waving to the people he passed. However, as soon as he turned and looked at me he froze up.

"What the fuck is this asshole doing here?" I say as the agent looks nervously between Soldier Boy and me.

"I heard someone else was getting medals too… Didn't realize it would be him," Eisenhower says looking at Soldier Boy with a judgemental look.

"Hey imposter, what medals are they giving you?" I say while glaring at him and making him snap out of his frozen state.

"The medal of honor," Soldier Boy says as I snort in disgust.

"Fucking disappointment," I say as his eyes widen and a flash of extreme anger comes on his face.

"I'm not a–" Soldier Boy says with a murderous voice.

"Not interested in your excuses," I say cutting him off and making him step toward me as his anger takes control.

However, I narrow my eyes at him, making him instinctually step back. I then smirk at his fear of me, which only seems to aggravate him further. Eisenhower is just watching this happen while taking note of Soldier Boy's fear of me. With the agent becoming very tense at the atmosphere between us.

"We are ready for you all," one of the many staff of the White House says coming into the room.

We then all follow after the staff member, and we are brought to a small stage area. The place where the President makes many speeches and talks to the people with the news ready to take pictures and write what happens down. As we all stand on the stage waiting, Truman walks out and waves at the press smiling before turning to us with the smile.

"I want to personally thank you three for all the great contributions you did to the war effort," Truman says while shaking each of our hands, lingering at Soldier Boy, showing he is a fan of him. I just roll my eyes seeing them.

Truman then goes and grabs the different medals which are lying nearby. He first goes to Eisenhower and rewards him with several medals, while the Press takes pictures. Then he moves to me giving me the same medals as Eisenhower. Finally, he moves to Soldier Boy with the Medal of Honor and gives it to him with a fanboy smile on his face.

"I would also like to announce that moving forward today will be known as Soldier Boy Day. To honor his contributions to the war effort," Truman says as Soldier Boy smiles at the cameras while shooting me a side-eye.

I hold back a head shake, though I am very annoyed with this information. Eisenhower sees my annoyance and gives me a look to not say or do anything. Biting my tongue we wait for Truman to leave before taking our leave too. However, Truman pulls Soldier Boy along with him leaving Eisenhower and I behind.

"Seems Vought is making more and more connections," I say with a grunt of annoyance, as Eisenhower just nods his head.

"Don't worry, I plan on running for President soon. Once I get it don't forget my deal," Eisenhower says to me.

"I'll take it… Something is off about Vought and I want to know what it is," I say to Eisenhower who smiles hearing I will take the deal he offered earlier.
