Chapter 8

ALEX

When my mother and my grandmother arrived at Gabriela's grandparents' house, I could hear noises and laughter coming from her grandparents' other house, so I suppose Gabriela must be having a good time, which makes me happy more than anything.

I must admit being with her family is something easy after they forgave me for everything, I did to her, and every day I'm more impressed by the relationship they had with each other, especially Gabriela and Kevin, from what I was able to find out in one of the meals we had before Paula shot me, people generally thought they were a couple, which I found funny.

"What is it that has you so thoughtful right now?" Carlota asked, suddenly appearing at my side. "Everything." I said sincerely, "Tell your friend what's happening to you. Do you feel uncomfortable being here?" She questioned and I denied, because I'm not at all uncomfortable "That's not it, Carlota."

"So?" She continued asking, "It's just after everything that happened between Gabriela and me, I didn't expect them to forgive me that easily." I finally admitted, "It hasn't been easy." my fiancée pointed out and I denied, because it had been "Of course it was, they could have made my life impossible to try to get me to break up with Gabriela, and they didn't do anything, they just accepted even though they thought it wasn't good for her."

"First of all, you know you were not going to break up with her, much less would Gabriela allow it. Second, they would end up understanding you're the person who makes Gabriela happy, and everyone wants to see her happy. It can be said Gabriela grew up before her time with Rebeca illness, I seem to remember she was about eight years old when her grandmother started with the disease and you could already see for yourself, she always helped her mother, and then she became a mother out of nowhere, you're going to be parents!!!! They were going to have to end up understanding it. Furthermore, that is what their family is based on, that everyone is happy, and since you are Gabriela's happiness, they would have to accept you in one way or another." She said with a smile on her face. "Her family is impressive, I must admit."

"True, but you'll get used to it, don't worry, you'll become part of her family." She assured and a small smile appeared on my face "And I'm super happy about that." I answered honestly, "I can see it, but what I'm wondering right now is why everything is so quiet in the other house." She said, looking towards the other house. "Well, I don't know, they're talking." I answered, shrugging my shoulders. "That's not normal, knowing what Gabriela is like and how she likes to wake people up, believe me, it's not normal for everything to be so quiet."

"Why?" I asked curiously. "Gabriela has a peculiar way of waking people up on days like today." She confessed and I frowned without understanding what exactly she meant. "How is she today?" I asked, "Come on Alex, you yourself could tell she's in a bad mood or anything." Gabriela's best friend pointed out and I denied, "She's never in a bad mood." I assured, "Did you really not sleep with her or what?"

"Of course I slept with her, but I don't understand what of her bad mood has to do with life." I insisted, because my fiancée may wake up not in the best mood, but that doesn't mean she's angry with her life. "Gabriela is one of those people who always wakes up in a bad mood." She responded and I denied "She doesn't wake up in as bad a mood every day as you want me to believe, I don't know what you're talking about." I admitted, "Are you going to tell me you never saw Gabriela in a bad mood in the morning?"

"Yes, I saw her, but that has nothing to do with her waking up in a bad mood." I assured, "Well, maybe when she sleeps with you, she doesn't wake up in a bad mood, but when she doesn't, she wakes up in a very bad mood, which is why no one dares to wake her up, you have to have guts to go wake up Gabriela, and don't cross paths with her until she drinks her coffee."

"I know not drinking coffee makes her sulk, but sulking all morning doesn't suit me with Gabriela." I informed her and she rolled her eyes, "Well yes, but what I was referring to, she's in a great mood today, it has been a while since she has been seen this happy in the morning, and generally, when she is this happy, that is when she likes bother the others."

"What are you talking about?" I asked curiously. "Usually, Gabriela is calm and wouldn't kill a fly, much less bother someone, but today is one of those days when she does, it's her time to be a little girl." She admitted "But that's good, she's not always going to be the mature one." I said with a big smile "And I know, I'm just warning you so you don't get a surprise and to tell you not to be separated from her for too long."

"Why?" I asked, this time frowning. "Because today it's impossible, or at least almost impossible to control her from doing something, and as you know, she cannot make efforts." Carlota noted, "Yes, I know, but I don't think she will." I said, but not completely sure. "Today more than any other day she has a lot of energy, she will have to spend it somehow." I'm sure Gabriela wouldn't do anything that would put our child's life at risk, and although she almost always tried to convince us to let her do something, I know that deep down she understood and that's why she didn't insist on it too much.

"It's okay, if you stay calm about it, I won't part with her as soon as she arrives." It is at that moment her cousins, Ana and then her, come through the door, and is when I notice her hand, which makes me worry and get up to go with her. "Beautiful, what has happened to you?" I asked "Nothing, I just fell." She said as if nothing had happened. "You fell and you said it so calmly?" her best friend questioned with a frown. "Carlota, nothing happened, I'm fine."

"Well, I wouldn't say a sprain is nothing." Roberta said from behind my fiancée "It's nothing Roberta considering something much worse could have happened." Gabriela commented with a smile on her face "I know, I know, but don't say it's nothing." the girl defended herself, "Did you hurt yourself anywhere other than your hand, my queen? And answer me truthfully, don't worry about worrying me."

"Honey, I'm fine, I just hurt my hand. It doesn't hurt anything else, really." She assured, "What she tells you is true, I checked her and asked her if she had any blows to the stomach. Everything is fine." Roberta replied which makes me breathe a little easier. It's not I didn't trust her, because she's the person I trusted the most, but considering she doesn't like to worry anyone, she could have been keeping the fact she's hurt something more so as not to worry any of us.

It didn't take long for lunchtime to arrive and we were sitting talking. Gabriela looked happy and that was great, I love seeing her like that. What caught my attention this time was she wasn't going to help them set the table as soon as they said it was time to set it, but then I thought she couldn't help with her sprained hand.

I still don't quite understand what happened to make Gabriela run off to I don't know where the moment the food arrived on the table and everyone looked strangely at each other, but it didn't take me long to follow her and when I I found her throwing up, I approached her to hold her hair and run my hand down her back. When she finished, she sat down on the chair there and leaned against the wall.

"Are you sure you're okay, beautiful?" I asked and she nodded "Yeah, don't worry." She assured, "How can I not worry if you were fine this morning and now, you're throwing up?" I asked worried "Don't worry, seriously, I'm fine. It's just that smell makes me vomit, that's all." responded "What smell?" I asked a little confused "The milk. When making the sauce, they had to add a lot of milk, and right now I can't stand it, I hate the smell. The same thing happened to me in the morning when I was in the other house."

"Do you have an allergy or something?" I questioned, trying to find a logical explanation. "No, the pregnancy." She said, "Now does milk make you sick?" I questioned and she denied it with a small smile on her face. "I haven't even tried it, it's just the smell that is horrendous." Just at that moment Gabriela's grandmother appears through the door with a worried look and ends up standing in front of her.

"Are you okay Gabriela?" Angela asked "Yes, don't worry, but I can't go to eat with you right now." My fiancée informed and her grandmother frowned "Why? Are you feeling unwell?" Ángela asked and Gabriela denied, "No, I just can't stand the smell of milk right now." She confessed "Why?"

"We'll explain it to you once you finish eating." Gabriela responded with a smile on her face "But then what are you going to eat? Because let me tell you, you should eat." Angela pointed out and I nodded with a smile "And she will, don't worry about that. I will see to it myself." I assured, "Okay, I'll leave it to you. Make sure she eats." She said and I nodded again "Obviously I will."

"Well, we'll let you know when we finish eating. Will you tell us later what happens to you?" Ángela asked and Gabriela nodded. "Yes, grandma, it's something you should all know, it's about time." She responded, "If you want to say it, we will be happy to listen to you. I see you in a while." She said goodbye, "See you in a while, Grandma." With that her grandmother left and we stayed in the bathroom, mostly because Gabriela is still sitting.

"Well beautiful, you must eat." I said "I know, but let me brush my teeth." She asked, "I will wait for you here, so don't worry." I assured, "Do me a favour." Gabriela said, putting toothpaste on the brush. "Whatever you want." I quickly responded, "Go to Kev and ask him for the keys to the house."

"What do you need them for?" I questioned with a frown trying to understand what's going through her mind. "I just need them." She responded, "It's okay, it won't take long." I was going to kiss her, but she pulled away before I could do so, which makes me look at her without understanding what's happening, but I could see a big smile on her face. "I'm not going to kiss you with this horrible taste in my mouth, love."

"It wouldn't bother me." I assured, "But it would bother me, then I'll give you as many as you want." She assured and I raised an eyebrow. "Is that a promise?" I asked with a smile starting to form on my face. "It is, now go get the keys."

With that I left in the direction where the others were and as soon as I entered the house, I noticed an unpleasant smell that made me feel something like retching, so I quickly left there, went to the garden and asked Kevin for the keys.
