Chapter 24: Alone

I walked into my apartment after leaving Jerry’s office and I felt slightly relieved, but I was still a mess. My heart, mind, and my body were aching from stress and tears. My cat approached me and was all purrs when I picked him up. At least, I still had him.

It still wasn’t enough to fill the void that was now left inside my heart. I didn’t know what to do now that grandpa was gone. I now had money and I would have more once Jerry finalized selling grandpa’s property. But money wouldn’t bring me happiness. Money would never fill the void in my heart. It wouldn’t stop the crippling loneliness that I now felt, it wouldn’t soothe the need I felt for Tristan or change what I had said to him.
