"You're still awake?" Mauve asked in horror.
"I can't believe you'd ask that," Jael replied.
"Well, I am trying to be as quiet as possible and you haven't said a single word in a while so I assumed you were sleeping."
"I can clearly hear the sound of your breathing even in my sleep. I assure you, you weren't quiet in any way."
"Huh? I wasn't that loud," she retorted.
"No, you weren't. I simply meant it doesn't matter how soundless you try to be, I can tell the instant you're not asleep."
"How?" She asked, genuinely curious. She raised her head to look at his face.
"You breathe differently. That aside, can't sleep?" Jael inquired, shifting the focus away from her nocturnal habits.
She shook her head. "It's more like I am not sleepy yet," she mumbled. She still found it a bit annoying that vampires had such keen hearing. "So it is harder to fall asleep."
"Would you like me to change that?" Jael offered.
