"I see your manners have not improved," Lady Marceline's voice echoed in the hall. "You should know better than to keep guests waiting."
Jael's expression darkened as he approached the table. His eyes scanned the table, his guards were already at the table as well as the rest of the household.
They all stood up simultaneously as he walked in. He neither increased his pace nor reduced it as he approached the table. He took his seat.
"Sire," they said before taking their seats.
"Tell me you have a proper excuse for being late even your personal guards were late." Lady Marceline continued.
Jael winced, it was obvious she had no intention of dropping the subject. Jael hated having to explain himself. It was annoying that she could talk to him like this as if the disruption never happened, as if he had no reason to be angry with her.
