My Hero

The stall keeper had pushed the man back but had not intended to push him into my table. He gives me an apologetic look before turning to the four and saying, "Enough! You're disturbing my business and my customers."

Two of the men turn to glare at him as two remain looking at me. One was still currently rubbing his ass as I give them a glare and say, "Well, you heard him. Run along." The man rubbing his ass scoffs before saying, "You have the nerve to say that after kicking me!?"

I blink in mock surprise before saying, "Do you need me to kick you again?" Suddenly, a tall, handsome man in white robes walks over with two men following close behind. Upon seeing the man, the four shrink back in fear as one whispers, "Boss, he's a Cultivator."

The man curses and says, "They all are! Today's not our day, let's leave." The handsome man in white remains unreadable as he says, "Take these four to jail." The four turn away with a curse and try to run but the two men behind the other in white immediately take them down without much effort at all.

I let them do their thing as the shop owner runs over and starts bowing to the man in white. "Thank you, young Lord, this lowly shop owner would have been troubled if not for you and your men." I ignore them as I wave my hand over the fallen table.

Everything rights itself but the food was destroyed. No amount of magic was bringing that back. The man in white silently watches before waving the man off and saying, "No need to thank me. This is what we should do. The young Miss didn't get to enjoy her food though."

The shop owner looks over and says, "Oh! Let me get you more food, Miss!" I give him a small smile and softly say, "Thank you." Before sitting back down. Suddenly, the man in white appears before me and asks, "May I join you?"

I look up at him for a moment. As soon as our eyes meet, I see his face change. I should be used to it by now, but everyone always seems so shocked when they see my eyes. I want to tell him to go away but I bite my tongue and murmur, "Sure."

He blinks in surprise before giving me a kind smile and saying, "I will pay for your meal, do not worry." I frown, about to say something when the stall owner walks over with two bowls of noodles and says, "No need, my Lord. This young miss gave me enough money to buy this whole stand three times over and then some. If anything, she's treating you."

The man in white stiffens as the stall owner winks as he puts the food down and walks away. I grab the new chopsticks and immediately stir them. The stall owner walks over and serves the buns and tea before leaving once again.

I lift the noodles, blow on them and take a bite. I relax a little as I try to enjoy my food once again. This is how it should be. The man suddenly says, "That was brave of you to stand up against all four men like that. My name is Weimin. What family do you belong to?"

I swallow my noodles and look up at the proper man in white. The bright sun made him look like he was a legendary hero, but his words were, odd. I look into his dark brown eyes as I say, "I didn't do anything. I just kicked him. You and your men were the ones who took care of it." I lean back over and pull out more noodles.

Weimin narrows his eyes on the girl, unconvinced. She had stood up and was ready to fight four men twice her size. It was rare to come across such pure-hearted people who actively tried to help others and now she was even trying to deny it.

She didn't want to take credit... what a selfless woman. She was not only beautiful and unique on the outside, but she was also the same on the inside. His heart warms as watches her digging into the food. She seems so hungry. Was she starving?

Had she run away from home? Whose young Miss was this? Had she been mistreated thus causing her to run away? His eyes narrow on the beautiful woman before him before asking again, "What is your surname? If someone is trying to hurt you, let me know and I will protect you."

My noodles drop and land in the bowl with a splat when I hear the man's words. I slowly glance up at him with confusion.

When he sees her look, his heart breaks. She looks so conflicted. Does she not want to tell him who because she still wants to protect them? What a good daughter. Such a young beautiful woman... she's out here all alone. She probably has no idea how the world works and how dangerous it could be.

When I see his eyes bleed with sympathy, my confusion grows even more. I eye him up and down before saying, "I think you may be confused." The man sighs and says, "Yes, yes. Let's just say I am. What is your name?"

I blink several times, was my language magic suddenly not working right? I lightly lick my lips as I say, "My name is Lyra, as far as my surname... I don't have one. Not one that you would know or understand anyway."

The man's eyes soften as he says, "Don't worry Lyra, I will keep you safe." This time I choke on my tea, nearly spitting it out. I cough a few times as the man tries to hand me a cloth he pulled out of his sleeve.

I wave him off and clear my throat before finally looking this man over. Was there some kind of unspoken rule in this world, that the more attractive you are, the crazier you are?? Sure, he was blindingly attractive but for some reason, my thoughts drifted back to the dark Bolin. Both are attractive but like flip sides of a coin... equally crazy in their own rights.
