Kain halted his steps and slowly dismounted from his beloved horse. With determined steps, the short man approached the tall gate. Without hesitation, he knocked on the gatekeeper's post with a little force.
Before long, the window in the gatekeeper's post opened, and the gatekeeper inside looked down, turning his face towards Kain who stood upright next to the gate. A hint of teasing could be seen on the gatekeeper's face as if he was holding back a smile that wanted to burst, "What's happening, little man? Isn't it too late to be out wandering? It's very dangerous for someone as short as you."
Kain responded firmly, without giving room for prolonged jokes, "We just want to stay for a few nights before continuing our journey to Berillan."
The gatekeeper still maintained his broad smile, then raised three fingers as a signal to explain the payment matters. "Alright, agreed. Open the gate," Kain said without waiting long, then confidently approached his horse.
