Commander Gallo's squad was a mobile team and as such did not carry with them armor suites or heavy weapons since they were bulky and not suited for long journeys without dedicated means of transport. So, when they left Jaffa, it was just their Templar uniforms, few change clothes and personal items bundled in a sack fixed in the saddle, carry on weapons as well as their mounts.
While waiting it Jerusalem, they commissioned the blacksmith to make armour, and extra weapons for them. This return journey required them to be well equipped. It was expensive, but money was not their problem. Master Balian paid them handsomely, and also given them enough gold coins to settle any expenses.
