Jack was baffled at the reward and the way it was being given. He thought the system was related to some game elements and thought that the moment he completed a quest, the reward would pop out of thin air.
[Sherlock: This is not a Fantasy Novel, Mr. Brown]
From the moment he got the system, this was the first time he saw a name pop up with dialogue. He was sure that Sherlock said he wouldn't pop up until he had finished his request.
[Sherlock: Your daring stunt was what made me come over here. Don't dare to die]
And the pop-up screen disappeared right after. He was confused if Sherlock could communicate in this way, and if he could, why didn't he contact him almost until he neared the end of the time.
He had less than six hours to catch the person responsible for the murders, and he was sitting on a bench with Sarah next to him.
"Tell me right now. Who are we facing?", she said as she cracked her knuckles, and began to rotate her head. The message was getting to Jack, and he had a smile that someone was watching his back.
"I too want to know. You've never come back battered. Not like this", said Steven as he looked at Jack with a really worried look on his face.
Both of them pressured him into giving them a name when a police officer came up to Jack and handed him a slip of paper. He took and unfolded it, prepared to read the message.
'If you want to live, evacuate everyone. You and the woman and kids, stay'.
He knew immediately who it was from, and he tried to stand up. A wince was all he gave as he twisted his body and looked out the window.
"I'm here", came a voice and a young man stood in front of him. He had a remote in his hand, and his body was strapped with a bomb.
"It's the same bomb", exclaimed Jack as he looked at the person who was wearing it, and he looked really young.
He had blue eyes, and his body looked athletic. The sweat on his forehead and the outfit he was wearing suggested that he came here on foot, running. He began to study the person, trying to find as much information as possible from his attire and his way of speaking.
"Mr. Brown. You won't be able to achieve anything by looking at me like that. I heard your claims, saying you'd become a legendary figure. Talking feels good, but proof?", he taunted.
A shrug was all he gave as he pointed at him, indicating that he was useless after this scenario, and anyone around him would just be digging their own graves. He looked at Sarah and Steven, and the two of them began to leave.
That was when the guy stopped Steven and asked him to sit right next to Jack. He looked at him in amusement.
"You must have died years ago. To think that you would be alive. Now, this is something interesting", he chuckled as he slipped his hands into his pockets and took a seat right opposite the family.
"You see, you seem to have misunderstood something. Should we have wanted you dead, your body would be left to the dogs to eat. But since you're here, alive and not well, by the looks of your condition, you're lucky", he said.
Steven was about to get up and hit him when Jack placed his hand on his chest, and with an invisible force to Kevin, he pushed him down.
Steven was surprised that he had this much strength left, but the look was different in his eyes. He had a smile dancing on his lips, but if looks could kill, he would have murdered Kevin on the spot multiple times.
The both of them were having a staredown, and Kevin was not going to give up. He felt his eyes tearing up, but he didn't want to blink yet.
Jack was high on adrenaline, and he was planning out something to make sure that everyone was safe. He was just coming out of danger himself, but he needed to be sure that one of them made out.
"Either me or Steven. So that we can stay alive. Or maybe I should trust Sarah with this. She would be good", he concluded as he pulled back and blinked, giving up the win to Kevin.
"Tell me. Are you The Chemist?", inquired Jack, and Steven had his hands ready to attack should he say something. He was sure that if he really was who he claimed to be, he wasn't a psychopath.
"And I forgot to thank you for something. That person you killed, what were his last words?", he asked and his fingers began to fidget slightly.
"Thank you for freeing me?", uttered Jack and then looked at the reactions he got from him. But there was nothing.
He was confused as to how someone would inquire about something, and yet have no reaction to the news they received. He expected a single emotion, but there was none.
A baffled Jack and Steven sat there, and the boy looked at the two of them. He didn't tell them too much, and Jack listened to every word he said.
"There exists a group that would give out something that you will need, and ask for that back in blood."
"I am one, among the many from that group. We took loans from sharks, and the interest rates became unbearable. Then in came another group, and bought us off by paying our loans back in full."
"Now, we are in debt with them forever. Until we clear them off, we're stuck with them. Doing things that we do not like, or sometimes, doing things that someone likes."
"My name is Kevin Murphy, and I shall become the greatest Chemist. But for that, I had to work and find something impressive."
"I came up with that powder. I killed the targets. I made it so obvious I was there, and yet you came after twenty-four hours."
"No wonder Bossman calls you mediocre. You are mediocre. You couldn't see the simple sign of me taking the plastic bag at that moment, and coming back to see it."
"You're not the best, so stop claiming you'll become the legendary detective. No one and I tell you, no one can beat Sherlock Holmes. He's the one and only."
He finished his statement and that was when an idea popped into his head. He was wondering how someone was so good a chemist.
"You're the killer? And you admit to it?", he cocked his eyebrow. The guy had a smile, and his phone rang.
He pulled it out and kept mum, and then placed it back inside. Getting up from the chair, he looked at the family that was terrified of him from the moment he entered.
"Worry not. Everything's over and your husband will be coming over soon", he smiled as he placed the bomb on the ground, and turned to Jack.
"Five minutes. Diffuse it and I shall surrender", he said as he looked at him with a smile.
