Steven and Fiona ran towards the room from which the explosion took place, and from the smoke came Jack, and his clothes were half burnt. He was coughing intensely, and the smoke was making it worse for him.
He was holding onto the door frame and was leaning forward panting hard. Steven helped him up and dragged him to the lounge, where it was much more spacious for him to breathe. After catching up with his breath, he looked Steven in the eye.
"Steven, I think this is going to be much bigger than I had initially thought", he said with a smirk. Steven looked at him and smirked back at him, and raised a single question to him.
"Longer than The Poisoned?', he asked. Jack laughed out loud and regained his composure in a few seconds. His eye was burning a fire, and he looked at his wristwatch to see the time that was remaining.
"Much bigger. But we don't have enough time to catch them all. For now, our focus is that black hooded guy. The Chemist", he said as he removed his shirt which had burned away. He picked up Steven's coat and donned it on his bare body.
Pulling out his knife, he cut off the fabric that was burned off his pants, and it turned into a chino. He smiled as he looked at Fiona, who felt a flush in her cheeks after seeing the upper torso of Jack.
"I think I might have a clue as to why your father was killed. For now, I will concentrate on finding his killer, as the pressure from others is coming down on my shoulders. Have a nice day", he said in a low voice and left the building.
The two of them got into the car and Steven was the one who was driving this time, and Jack was deep in thought. He then slipped his hand into his half-burnt coat and found that the autopsy report was burnt away.
The thing that he dreaded the most had happened, and he wasn't sure how he would be able to get everything in order now. He then remembered that he had Sarah who was in the Forensic department, and he pulled out his cell to give her a call.
"And I have yet to get her number. And just when I need it most", he muttered as he placed the cell back inside his pocket. Steven had his eyes on the road, and he didn't disturb, as he knew Jack's personality from working with him before.
"Alright, we have three people killed by a man who is not just athletic, he is very well versed in chemistry. If he is this well versed in chemistry, where the hell is he living? In a lab?", he thought.
"He doesn't just act, but he is well-planned. He knows the ways inside, and he had backup plans, should I show up near him to arrest him. I don't even know if it's a he or she. If only they had talked", he muttered.
He began to recall the definitions of the person who was standing in front of him. He was just as tall as Jack and was wearing an all-black outfit. Sporting a black hoodie over a black tee, and a pair of black sneakers with black jogging pants. And a pair of black gloves over his hands.
The hoodie had covered the head, and there was a cap that covered his eyes, but Jack had noticed something in those eyes which he saw for a few seconds. They were light blue, which was a very rare color for the eye.
"There is also the possibility that they might be wearing a pair of contacts too. Now, let's think about the build that might be hiding beneath the hoodie", he thought as he placed his fingers on his chin.
He noticed that the killer had wide shoulders, and they seemed slightly rounded. There was muscle but not that defined, and he knew the difference between a worked-out shoulder and a well-defined shoulder.
Their hands were long, giving them enough range to keep a space between them two to run away at a moment's notice. The chest and stomach were something he couldn't take notice of, as the hoodie was baggy specifically there.
"They're meant to be baggy. Gosh, I hate it when they wear baggy clothes. But let's assume that they have a well-defined body, rather than a worked-out one", he thought as he was still deep in the scene.
Their legs were well defined, as he could see their calves were well defined. All in all, he deduced that they were athletic and light on their feet, with a piece of immense knowledge of chemistry.
"Now, who in the world is young and athletic, and so well-versed in chemistry? So well-versed that they know what cops look for. I wonder", he thought and slumped into the seat that was in the car, and Steve had a smile on his face.
"I know you're in the zone now, Jack. So, I'll wait until you have arrived at the answer that you're waiting for", he thought as he glanced at Jack deep in thought with creased brows and closed eyes.
(In a university)
"So students. That concludes the experiment for today", said the teacher, and a man was closing up his notebook with a smile. He looked at the experiment that he had conducted under the professor's guidance, and the tubes were filled with black goo.
The professor came around and looked at each of their experiments, and he reached the man who was standing nervously in front of the black goo. He had a smile on his face as he reached him and looked at the result that he had attained.
"Ahhh, Kevin. Did you mess it up again?", he said in a soft voice and began to listen to the process in which he had done the experiment. He shook his head sideways in disappointment.
"I wonder how you're going to keep up that dream of becoming the greatest chemist like John Dalton and Louis Pasteur", he said as he taught him again from the first. Right after he left the table, he pulled open the drawer that was next to him and pulled out another tube with the right result.
"Can't be acing classes if I got to stay on the low now, can I?", he smiled as he pulled his cell out, on which he had received a text.
