The Hunting Grounds

He didn't stop running and kept his speed up. The moment he slowed down would be the death of him, and he knew that. He was out of breath, and he heard a few footsteps following close behind him. He was in a parking lot at the moment, and he had to make sure that his opponent were out of commission.

He put his hand at his pistol right away, but he also didn't want to kill anyone as he knew most of the people were following orders. He hid behind a car and tried to talk them out of it.

"I know you guys can hear me. Drop your guns and I can let you go free", he said. "Either way, we are dead men, and dead men tell no tales", said one of the men and Jack felt a barrel at the back of his neck.

"Saves me the time to search for each of you", he thought as he stood up with his hands above his head. He walked slowly towards the other five who were in front of him, and their guns levelled at his head.

After assessing his possibilities, he knew his only possibilty was by taking the man behind him hostage. He didn't show any signs of turning around, and the man behind him inched closer to him.

His pistol was now on his head, and he was within an arms reach of Jack. The moment he realised this, he put his plan into swift action. Using his elbow, he hit the man's forearm and made him lose grip on his gun.

He quickly took the gun from his and held it to the man's temple. His buddies began to shiver and withdrew their guns. But what he didn't count for was the bullet that lidged right through his hostage's head, and a bloodbath began.

Everyone hid behind a vehicle, and Jack was the centre of it all. He was so perplexed that he couldn't make head or tails of the things that were happening to him. He knew for a fact that someone had ordered a hit on him, and it was someone of high standing.

"Just how much does my head cost today?", he thought as he looked into the dark net where the bounties for everyone that would be placed. The bounty on his head was something that was shocking even to him.

"35 billion dollars, and it is still rising. Just what the hell is wrong with these people?", he thought as he put his cell back into his pocket. He switched it off, for fear of being tracked.

Jack began to do something that he had never wished he had done, and that was stealing a car. Using his pocket knife, he opened the door to an old sedan that was beat and gathered dust.

"I hope this baby has enough fuel to get me across", he thought as he began to hot wire the car. It roared to life on the first try, unlike to his expectations. He gunned the accelerator and he shifted into gear. It was a manual, and he had a smile as he drive.

"Wohoooo! Let's go baby!", he exclaimed as he hit the road. Shifting into the second gear, he made a hard right as he shot one of the men in their legs. His left window shattered as a bullet whizzed past him.

He was alarmed, but the adrenaline pumping into him said otherwise. He was enjoying the feeling of this thrill, and he pressed down on the gas. He sped out of the building and pulled the handbrake. He drifted right across the way in high speed, and went past the people that were lying in wait.

Baker Street was a few miles away from him, and he had to make sure to get there within four in the evening. He had plenty of time which he could use to go there, but the people on his tail were making it difficult for him to reach within the said time.

There were cars of all kinds chasing him, and there were some more in front of him. This was a new development for him, and he was now in a predicament where he couldn't escape. There was a sub-machine gun right in front of his face, threatening to end his life.

Just as the person was about to fire the gun, he made a hard left, moving further away from the path that he was supposed to take. Jack was annoyed and he wanted to get back to track quickly.

"Alright, let me see what you can do now, and gas is running low", he thought as he swerved the car into a small lane, in which the cars had to line up as a file. Just as he was about to get out of the lane, the car turned off.

The doors on the sides were jammed, and he couldn't open them up. He pulled out the gun and shot the windshield, shattering it into pieces and climbing out on the hood. The people behind him were stuck, as they had to do the same to the car to give him chase.

He then began to walk, and suddenly felt a brush next to his arm. Right after the brush, the only thing he felt was a knife at his back, and Jack had a smile on his face. With his hands in his pockets, he began to talk in a hushed voice.

"To where exactly?", he asked. The woman behind him had his head covered, and only her lips were visible. The hood and the cap made her look mysterious, and the creepy smile she gave was something that sent chills down Jack's spine.

The woman said nothing and urged Jack to follow her instructions, leading him into an alleyway which was dark and the only light that was coming was through the entrance, which made the shadows much longer than it should have been.

She lowered the hood and revealed her face, and Jack had astonishment written all over his face. The woman introduced herself.

"Hello, I am Sarah Robinson", she said with a smile.
