Patches and Strings (1/1)

Rowan woke just as the first sliver of dawn painted a lavender blush over the sky outside. Wren was gone again, but Rowan had expected as much, and in fact was anxious to finish what he'd started last night with the splinter undisturbed.

He quickly dressed, smiling when he saw that Wren had eaten every single snack he'd left out, and taken the note, too. Rowan's instinct whispered that Wren would subdue his Disorder enough to be back again sooner than the arbitrary lunchtime deadline he'd set, which meant he needed to hurry.

"When I'm done with the bridge, I promise to see what I can do about you," Rowan said to the little flower on his bedside table, not wanting to take even a few seconds to infuse it with a song until he knew he had the energy to spare.

Tampering with Wren's illusion was certainly not going to be an easy feat.
