More Surprises

They worked for an hour and a half, making serious progress in the project. Both lost track of time and were surprised when Tina announced dinner. After they ate, they packed up their books and made plans to finish the project the next day. Jardan told his parents he would take Callie home before running his books up to his room.

Joyceta gave Callie another hug as they waited. “I want you to know, Callie, that you are always welcome here. It’s such a delight to have you.”

“Thank you, Mrs. Laurant. I appreciate you having me over. It has made the adjustment a little smoother.”

“Good.” Joyceta looked up to see her son running down the stairs. “Have a good night, my dear.”

Jardan winked at Callie as he leaned in to kiss his mother on the cheek. “Be back in a bit, Mom.”

On the way, Jardan took a turn Callie had never seen. Instead of turning at the grocery store to the entrance of her own neighborhood, he continued on to the church and turned onto a small road beside of it.
