“Come to think of it, no.” His head was clear.

“Then go punish the boy.”

Bear didn’t say anything else because there was nothing else to say. Jake hung up the phone.

He walked quietly down the hall. His Davey lay on his own bed, bottom bared.

“You have to be on my lap to do this properly. And don’t think I’m going to allow you a minute of subspace. You know what you did. You did it deliberately. I’ll ask you why after I punish you. What are your safe words?”

“Red for stop, yellow for go slowly and green for go.”

“I’m going to begin. Count and thank me for the correction and after this maybe you’ll see the error of your ways.”
