Then he grins,and it’s like I’m all that exists in the world.

“Hey,”he whispers with a glance at my computer screen.He can tell from thewindow I have pulled up that I’m on the phone with a customer.“We’ll talk when you’re done.”

We’ll talk…My heart races at his words.Even though I know he’s just here about the workshop,I can’t keep from hoping he wants something more.Maybe we have to get together before we leave,to work out traveling arrangements or something.If so,maybe I can ask him out to dinner.My place sounds good.

I’m no longer hearing the customer on the other end of the line.She’s right,I’m not listening to her—I’m lost in a daydream where Scott says he’d love to come over after work.The fact that he’s mere inches from me only enhances the fantasy.I catch a hint of his spicy aftershave and my eyes slip shut as I breathe deep to draw in his scent.

In my ear,a woman snaps,“Hello?Are you still there?”
