Evan’s posture was tense, his shoulders hunched. He stared at Danny and suddenly burst into laughter. “You are unbelievable. Can you hold this saintly composure until we get to a bar? I really don’t want to explain while I’m driving.”
“Sure. I’ll wait. Why don’t you head to the Regency Grand? It’s just two blocks over.”
Evan nodded and rejoined the stream of traffic.
Danny managed to contain his curiosity until they found a secluded spot in the bar and ordered drinks. But he had finally reached his limit of patience. “Okay, I’m not going to be mad, but what happened to my car?”
Evan sighed. “I was on the way to Mansfield in the foothills just outside Whisper Ridge. There was…an accident. Look, it’s been a really hard day. I just…I need…could we not go into the details until tomorrow? I really need to relax and think about something else.”
