After I returned home that day, I decided to spend the rest of the week focusing on the training of my Pokemon. Some of them were nearly ready for either a breakthrough evolution or both, and I wanted to use these days to help them bridge that point.
So, the next day I had Xatu Teleport me to Viridian City and walk towards Route 3. From there, instead of walking to cover some distance, I walked a bit off the path and searched for a good place to train undisturbed by other people, since I did not want anyone to see our training.
The occasional wild Pokemon on the other hand were welcome since we used them as involuntary sparring partners. Their ultimate fate depended on their intent when they approached us. Those that were simply curious or had no ill intent in general, were healed and even compensated with food.
Pokemon that came with ill intent were fought without holding back at all, their fate was dependent on their luck. No one died yet, at least not through our hands.
I, especially, focus on Mothra, the Nidoran, and the Magikarp with poison affinity, because those 4 are the closest to their next step. They all did specific parameter training, just like they had been doing inside my space when I was not using them in battle. The difference was that I was now actively keeping an eye on them and participating in their training.
As for Nyx, she still had a bit before she was ready to evolve, so I let her do her thing. She followed me most of the time, cheering on/making fun of the others. Our first day ended without any breakthroughs or evolutions, but that was okay.
We came back to the same place the next day, and as luck would have Mothra finally managed to bring her last parameter, agility, to SS after we were halfway through the day. Who would have thought it would be so hard to train the agility of a Pokemon without any limbs.
Sarcastic, half depressed, jokes aside. Now, that Mothra had brought all her parameters to SS, it was time for her to evolve. With her previous limit breaking and her current limit breaking, I was pretty sure that she would unlock a genetic trait, at least I hoped so.
The limit breaking improved her potential, and the rest of her after all. That should include her genes, so I was pretty hopeful that she should gain something during her evolution to Butterfree. Since I did not want to attract any attention because of Mothra's evolution, I put everyone into my space, myself included.
There I started to take out the materials I had prepared for her evolution. Only D-class and above materials were used. I started surrounding Mothra with Butterfree Treats, Compromised Ambers (Bug), and Silver Powders. After that I dabbed the ointment I made, using the (low) gold Butterfree carcass, some ground Amber, some Silver Powder, some ground Float Stone, and a ground Pidgeotto's Crest Feather, on Mothra.
Once everything was ready I gave her the go, and she started her evolution. It was impressive to see because the phenomena caused by her evolution was much greater than the one caused by Butterfree's and Xatu's evolution.
She attracted much more energy to herself, her cocoon of light that always emerged was much bigger than the one Butterfree had, and the light she released was much brighter as well.
The process took a bit longer than expected, but in the end, the light stopped, and the cocoon vanished. When I saw Mothra's new form my jaws literally dropped. She was breathtaking, awesome, impressive, and many other such complimentary words.
The first thing of note was her size, I would estimate her to be about two times the size of a regular Butterfree, which was around 50% larger than my first one. Yet, that was not the most impressive thing about her new form.
No, looking at her I was absolutely sure that she had unlocked a genetic trait because she had 2 traits that normal Butterfree didn't. The first one was some sort of white mane around her neck portion. The second one was a blue flame-like pattern on her forewings.
Mothra's main body was nearly as large as I was, and if we included her feet then we were nearly the same height. Naturally, she won the height contest, if we added her wings into consideration as well. In that case, she was somewhere between 220 and 240 cm. It was a bit hard to give a concrete number without really measuring her, but that's what it looked like to me.
Anyway, I went up to her, hugged and congratulated her. The others seeing my action walked over to congratulate her as well. We talked for a bit and Mothra chittered excitedly, which was understandable. She had been waiting for this moment for quite some time.
Had it not been for me asking her, she most likely would have evolved much earlier, because she disliked the mobility disadvantage she had as a Metapod. While she was able to compensate for that with the use of String Shots, she still had wanted to regain her full mobility.
So, she was really happy now that she had evolved. That she could now fly was an awesome bonus as well, that made the delay worth it. While everyone was enthusiastically talking, I decided to check her new status.

Well, first of all, she obviously gained the flying type, and then there is her potential. While it is still light purple, it increased by about 60% thanks to the materials I had prepared for her. Next up is the point that proves that she unlocked a genetic trait.
Apparently, she is now a Royal variant, which would explain the white fluffy looking mane around her neck, and the royal-blue flame-like pattern on her forewings. The Royal trait gave her a +25% bonus that applied overall.
After that came her two abilities, Compound Eyes, and Tinted Lens. Compound Eyes increased her accuracy by about a third, and Tinted Lens allowed her to improve the impact of moves due to type disadvantage to that of neutral ones.
Mothra's talent stayed the same, but her affinities had some change. She gained the flying/air affinity, and her psionic affinity reached the same standard that one's typing has. Since it did not cause her type to change, it probably meant that the flying type had a priority during evolution. Still, she now had the same affinity other psychic types had, so that was great.
Her resistances and weaknesses were the same all Bug, Flying-type Pokemon had, so nothing surprising there. Nonetheless, seeing her enlarged list of weaknesses, especially her major weakness to the rock-type, caused me to decide on training her resistance to those types.
Besides those changes, there is only the move Gust left, which she learned upon evolution. Its mastery is at novice grade, which is to be expected since it's brand new.
After a while, we left my space and everyone focused back on their training. While the others were training Mothra was getting used to her new body and checking out her moves to see if anything changed. It turns out that it did, her moves were quite a bit stronger than before, despite her mastery and parameters staying the same.
The most likely cause for this was the combination of her evolution and the bonus from her new genetic trait. The evolution part happened to everyone, but the new trait was most likely the biggest contributor to the large boost.
Shortly before dinner, we returned home, and the faces of my parents when they saw Mothra was hilarious. They were slack-jawed, and I could not stop myself from laughing. My laugh brought them out of their stupor, and they congratulated Mothra and me, mostly Mothra. I thought I briefly saw an anxious look on my father's face before it vanished but ultimately decided that I probably imagined it.
After that they started circling her, checking her out, and occasionally giving Mothra an ego boost by saying how impressive she was. The rest of the day we, mostly my parents, talked about our Pokemon. We also talked about our next scouting trip, and I told them about periodically alternating between cities and the stores we bought the Pokemon from.
They agreed, and told me that they had already decided to do the same, but that they were proud that I had thought of it as well. They hugged me and all that, it was one of those happy family moments. I could have probably powered a Patronus with the good memories I made if that had not been part of another universe.
Ultimately, it was decided that we would do our scouting trip next weekend since my mother said that her Pokemon were about to break through to the bronze stage, and she wanted to focus on that during this weekend.
The next day was a Dialday, this meant that the day after would be the weekend, during which I would have to pause my focused training. These two days also doubled as a rest/relaxing period for my Pokemon, so that was not a problem.
Nonetheless, we returned to our new training site the next day and resumed our training. Now that Mothra had evolved, I focused more on the others to help them achieve their breakthrough/evolution.
Just when I started to think I would have to return home without anyone succeeding in the last step, my poison Magikarp successfully raised her energy density to SSS, which meant that all of her parameters had now reached that point.
Since that was the case I pulled her from the pond I had her training with my other Magikarp into my space and then told my Pokemon to continue to train. I informed them that I would be back soon and entered my space as well.
Once inside I told my poison Magikarp that she could begin her breakthrough, and she did. The phenomenon was not as big as that caused by evolution, but as always when a Pokemon broke through, she started shining a bit by the energy she attracted from her environment.
Since she had brought her poison affinity to the same standard as her water one, she shined even brighter than normal, since she attracted extra energy to fuel the changes that were happening to her body while she gained the poison typing.
The same had happened to my dragon-type Magikarp as well as grass-type Magikarp, so I was not worried. After the light settled down I could see her new look, and she had not changed that much. Half of her body was still burnt orange and the other half purple, as it had been before her breakthrough. Furthermore, she had also grown a row of small spikes/thorns along her spine.
Besides that, the tips of her whiskers and fins turned a light shade of purple, while the white of her tail gained some purple as well. Other than that there were no physical changes. After congratulating her I checked her new status.

The first thing that changed was that she gained the poison typing, with it came some other things as well. First of all, and I had subconsciously ignored that for the others, was the mention in the genetic variant section. There was now a Poison Variant there, but all it did was show that she was a poison variant, it had no other use.
The reason it was even mentioned there, is that my observe took the OG Magikarp as the standard, so every other type variant was mentioned in the genetic variant section as such. The same was true for other species as well.
Anyway, moving on. Additionally, to the mention in the genetic section, it also influenced her resistances and weaknesses. She now had the same resistances water/poison-type Pokemon, like Skrelp, would have. Looking at the list I had to say it was impressive because that's a pretty large number of resistances.
Another thing that happened after she gained the poison type was that one of her abilities changed, Rattled got replaced by Poison Touch, which made it possible to poison someone through touch. She would have to learn to control that so that she did not poison someone accidentally, but it was a good ability.
Those were all the changes that happened because of her new typing, the only other change that happened was that her potential increased as well as her new parameters, but that happened thanks to her breakthrough. Her potential went from lower-scale light blue to upper-scale blue. She was only missing a bit more than 6% to reach deep blue potential.
Thanks to the +2 she received for the starting values of her parameters, because of her SSS breakthrough, she began directly at the (mid) bronze stage. The reason for that was that her high agility and endurance pushed the average of her parameters to F, which in turn made her a (mid) bronze-stage Pokemon.
I was always happy to see the result of all that hard work put into breaking their limits. Once I was done checking her status, I left my space and was back at our training spot. I called out Magikarp and put her back to the pond with my other Magikarp. Everyone saw her new look and came to congratulate her for her breakthrough as well as her new look.
Magikarp swam happily at all the positive attention she received and it took a while for the others to return to their training. A bit more than an hour later I recalled everyone, except for Xatu, either in their balls or into my space. Afterward, Xatu teleported us home, and we relaxed for the rest of the day. Tomorrow was the start of the weekend, so for the next 2 days, we would be at home.
