<My fellow Colombians, it is with a heavy heart that I am forced to inform you President Marco Zapata has died in the line of duty Colombian people.>

Every Colombian -those gathered in front of the Casa de Nariño and those watching from their TV or listening on their radios from home- was stunned into a collective silence.

They had suspected the President's death, but actually finding out about it, and the unexpected situation of his death surpassed their immediate acceptance.

DG Arango took advantage of the silence to quickly continue, lest the crowd loses decorum when they recover.
