Go back home

"So I heard Miles came by your house." Chloe says beside me during lunch the next day.

I turn to her with shock.

"How did you know that?" I ask her.

"Nick told me."

Oh right. They are siblings.

"So did he?" She asks.

I nod. "Yeah."

"Why?"

"He told me he wanted to spend time with me."

"Spend time with you?" She repeats and I nod. "Why would he want to do that?"

"I don't have an idea. And he also called aunt Mary my mom."

"He did what?" She shouts.

"Keep your voice down." I glare at her.

"Sorry. Why would he call her that?"

"I don't know either. I mean maybe he doesn't know my parents are dead. Nick didn't know either before I told him."

"You may be right." She sips her juice. "So what happened after that?"

"Nothing actually. Nick came and they said something about Rick, then Miles had a phone call and left. I haven't seen him since."

"Did you say Rick?" Chloe asks me.

I nod. "Yeah. You know him?"

"I'm not sure. That name sounds really familiar." She says as I see her thinking about it.

"Maybe you just heard it somewhere." I suggest.

"Yeah maybe. That's probably it."

"Speaking of my aunt, have you seen Lisa lately?"

"Lisa?" I nod. "No. Why?"

"She hasn't been home for days. That isn't like her."

Chloe shifts closer to me."What do you think happened?" She asks.

"Well, she had a fight with her mom and she hasn't come home since."

"Oh." She leans back. "And I thought it was something major. Leave it. I'm sure she would come home someday. She's just being bitchy." She says. "Besides, why should you care? Lisa isn't worth your thoughts."

Right. Why am I fussing over her. If she doesn't want to come home, so be it.

But seeing aunt Mary's expectant face each time I open the door everyday only for it to change to disappointment when she sees it's me, keeps bothering me.

The woman obviously misses her child, but Lisa won't just show up.

The bell rings and I get up, discarding my untouched lunch in the trash.

"Hey I want to make a quick stop at the restroom. I'll meet you in class." I say to Chloe and she nods.

"Sure. Just don't be late." She says and walks away.

By the door to the restroom, I hear giggling coming from inside and I roll my eyes.

Must be the students who want to skip class.

I walk in with the mindset to avoid them all.

But when I enter, the girls aren't just some students, they were in fact Lisa and her minions giggling in front of the mirror.

Their laughter dies down when they notice it's me and Lisa groans.

"Do you guys smell trash?" She cover her nose.

"I thought I was the only one who smelt it." One of her minions answers.

Very funny.

I walked straight to Lisa and stop right beside her.

"What?" She looks at me in disgust.

"Why didn't you come home since?" I ask her.

She stares at me before she bursts into laughter.

"You must be kidding me." She says when she calms down. "Who do you think you are to ask me such question? My mom?"

"God forbid let me have a brat like you." I say back at her. "But your mother's worried."

She rolls her eyes. "Yeah right. I'm sure she pretty much wanted me out of that house. Remember? You're the child she wanted."

"No she didn't say that. She loves you and you know it."

"Please. Who are you to talk about love? You know nothing about parental love. I mean how could you know when you have no parents to give you love?" She asks.

I close my eyes, put my hands in fists beside me and take deep breaths before I open them back.

"Listen." I start. "You don't have to stay for long. You can just come to the house and let her see you. You could just stay for ten minutes."

"I don't want to." She says and I groan silently. "Stay the fuck out of my business." She picks her bag and hits my shoulder as she walks past me.

I turn to her.

"Just stop being a senseless bitch and listen to me!" I shout and she stops.

She faces me. "What did you just call me?" She asks.

"A senseless bitch." I repeat. "Stop acting like an idiot. Stop acting like you don't care because I know you do. I'm sure you miss her too so stop being a thickhead and go see her."

She takes a step towards me. "A low life nobody like you can't tell me what to do."

I also take a step towards her."You know what Lisa?" I pause. "You can't do without your mother." I say. "You know it, I know it, everyone knows it. You are nothing without her. You always crave her attention. On the outside you might act like you don't give a fuck but deep down, you want her attention to always be on you." I pause.

"Of course she gave it to you. She gave you all the attention you needed, but you just decided to turn out to be a brainless useless somebody."

"I am not useless." She says angrily.

"Yes you are." I say. "And just because you had a little fight, you decided to run away from the house. How pathetic." I could see her hands turning to fists. "You ran away from the only place you feel loved. Tell me something would you? How do you feel? How are you coping? Huh? You ran from the only place you could get real love, so how does it feel?"

"Shut up." She warns.

"It must be terrible right?" I ask her with pity and mock on my face. "It must be lonely and tiring right?"

"I said shut it."

My face changes to an indifferent expression immediately.

"You wanna know the best solution?" I walk towards her and stop right in front of her face. "Stop being stupidly immature and go back home." I say and I hit her shoulder as her walk past her towards the exit.
