Chapter 85: Two annoying problems

Since Rhaegar saw Lyanna in Storm's End's tourney, he tried to think of different ways to see her since then. According to a letter that Lord Rickard Stark sent him, It seemed that Rhaegar had visited Winterfell at the end of year 279 AC. His excuse was that he wanted to check on The Wall and the Night's Watch, but Edward knew his true intentions and mentioned them to Lord Rickard in a private conversation between the two.
Although Edward was a little worried about this situation, as he feared that Lord Rickard might use this chance to get close to the crown by annulling the marriage between Lyanna and Robert and marry her to Rhaegar instead, nothing bad happened in the end. The northern men value their words and promises over anything else, and since Lord Rickard promised Lyanna to Robert, he would not change his mind. Though, Edward thought that the reason might be the trade between Stormsland and the North.
When Rickard knew that Rhaegar was coming, he sent Lyanna away. Since she did not appear before the prince's eyes, Rhaegar had no right to ask about her. That was the reason he returned with empty hands after his visit to the North. He did not even visit the Wall like he said he would. On the contrary, he took the Kingsroad back to King's Landing.
Since he could not pull the same trick twice, All Rhaegar could do was hasten his plans regarding the tourney of Harrenhal. Since Lord Rickard Stark did not know that Rhaegar was this tourney organizer, he would not mind sending his daughter to attend with the rest of his sons.
Since everything was going as he planned, Edward did not even think about telling Rickard about this information. He would advise Lyanna on last time in the tourney. If she listened to him, he would save her. But if she did not, it would be her fault. Although he doubted that she would since he was the one sending everything about Robert to her. Every whore and every bastard that Robert had, Lyanna would be the first to know. Even Edward would know after Lyanna would, as he instructed his men to send this information to her before him.
With Rhaegar's new plan, it seemed that the tourney would be a lot earlier than Edward thought, and he would not have made enough preparations by then, so he had to do something. He could not let Rhaegar held this tourney before year 281 AC, so he sent the shadow legion for this operation. He gave them the task of killing members of House Whent and creating enough trouble in their territory, which would keep them busy for at least a year and a half.
Since Rhaegar had already started financing the tourney, he could not stop mid-way and choose another house. No house would help him in his plans except for the Whent, so he had to wait till House Whent solved their problems.
The other problem could get directly linked to Tywin fucking Lannister. Edward thought that the man would have lost his hopes after all the humiliation he went through at the hands of Ayres, but it seemed that Tywin really had thick skin and was shameless enough to try to stop the marriage. Even after all this, he still played his last card to cause a rift between Rhaegar and Elia in order to annul their marriage. The man still had some hope to marry his daughter, Cersei, to Rhaegar as if that could even happen. Like the lunatic sitting on the Iron Throne would ever allow such a thing to happen.
He used the intelligence that he obtained from Edward to cause damage to Rhaegar's reputation. Many already believed the rumor that said that Rhaegar was gay and had a relationship with his friend, Jon. The people of Dorne were the ones who did believe this rumor the most.
Tywin did not stop at that but spread rumors in Crownlands about Elia's week body and that her children would not live long if she even had any. He did not forget to spread rumors about how she had a relationship with her brothers, which caused her to have such a week body.
After Edward heard about this news, he wanted to kill Tywin at the moment. It was Edward's fault for believing that Tywin would do what he wanted. Tywin would never miss any chance to raise the power of his family. The man would not mind sacrificing anyone and anything in the process. It was Edward who was naive enough to believe that the man would do something different.
If his plan worked and he managed to stop this marriage, Tywin would turn his head towards Edward after that, as he would not allow a variable like Edward to exist while his daughter was the wife of Rhaegar.
Edward decided to put an end to the rumors regarding Elia. But just as he was about to send a message to Rob, a visitor came to him in Storm's End from King's Landing.
Edward was a little surprised after knowing who the man was as he thought that that man would not ever leave King's Landing at the moment.
The man who visited Edward was Varys. It seemed that his little birds heard about what happened between Rhaegar and Lyanna at the tourney. Edward could not do anything about the spies during the tourney and had to wait till the tourney ended before cleaning them up again.
When Varys visited him, they had a long conversation during that day. The man was really resourceful and even knew that Edward had contacted Lord Stark regarding Rhaegar's issue.
"It is an honor to see you, Lord Baratheon." Said Varys when Edward allowed him to enter the hall.
At that moment, Edward was alone as he did not want his mother and brother to hear anything of the conversation between the two of them. He knew if Stannis knew about what they said, he would connect some dots and might think that the next war would involve his brother, Robert. He might feel unwell about such a situation as Stannis did not like Robert at all. No one of the siblings did, actually. Robert might only have Ned Stark, Jon Arryn, and Cassana as the only people who cared about him.
As for Cassana, Edward did not want her to hear that the prince she once admired as her son had a crush on her true son's betrothed. She would panic as always, and Edward did not want to listen to her in such situations.
