A traitor amongst us II

"Alright then, we'll get right on it…. But one thing, wouldn't it turn out bad for us if the other agents find out that we are investigating them??"

Tara asks.

"Well I guess so but then that just means you have to be discreet. In the case that you do get found out, then it might actually still work in my favor."

Jeroam surmises.

"Because if it is the traitor that finds out, we would be able to single he or she out as they would most likely try to cover up their tracks or would try to deviate attention from themselves."

Clark remarks.

"Exactly. I can see you both are quite smart, maybe I won't have to worry so much about you guys."

Jeroam points out with Clark feeling a bit awkward as he placed his hand on his head.

"Any other questions??"

Jeroam asks in a bid to be courteous with both agents nodding in the negative.

"Alright then, if that will be all then you may leave and begin the investigation."

"Yes sir."

Both agents salute after which they scurry out of the office with Jeroam chuckling at their behavior.

"I guess it will all work out in the end."

Jeroam mutters to himself.

Clark and Tara are just outside Jeroam's office exchanging looks with each other as they attempted to understand fully the mission they had just received from the elder.

"Do you think he is right about a traitor being on the island??"

Tara asks as she still doubted that it could be true.

"I mean he won't just start saying damaging stuffs like that if he didn't have some kind of proof right??"

Clark retorts with a question of his own as both agents wanted to believe that it wasn't true.

"I mean if it does turn out to be true then do you understand the gravity of what that could mean for the D.O.D."

Tara remarks with her hands on her head.

"The people's trust in us and our abilities would be seriously affected and even trust amongst agents in the organization would be affected just as severely."

Clark rests his back against the wall as he took in the exact ramifications of having a traitor amongst their ranks.

"I guess that's enough reason to investigate this."

Tara says matter of factly as she finally comes to a conclusion regarding the matter.

"What do you mean??"

Clark asks with a raised brow.

"Let's prove to Elder Jeroam that D.O.D isn't as tainted as he would have us believe. Let's nab the son of a bitch that's trying to ruin the good name of our organization."

Tara replies with enthusiasm causing Clark to agree with what she was saying.

"You are right, standing here and brooding over what the elder told us won't solve anything. But one question…"

Clark puts up a finger.

"What's that?" Tara asks.

"What if the culprit is a woman."

Clark asks with Tara looking utterly confused.

"What??"

"You said let's nab the son of a bitch, which implies that you feel the culprit is a guy, what if it turns out to be a lady??"

Clark asks with a serious expression like as though the question he had asked was very important.

"What??... What??...are you serious right now??"

Tara asks in utter confusion.

"What??...its just a question."

Clark remarks with a smirk.

"There is something wrong with you... there is something seriously wrong with you."

Tara says as she begins to walk away with Clark chuckling at his own stupidity.

"Hey wait up."

***************

Dan is seated at the reception with his eyes closed, it was hard to tell if he was meditating or sleeping as he took in slow and measured breaths. He feels a tap on his shoulder and opens his eyes to set sights on Okoye standing right over him.

"Hello."

Okoye greets in her usual jovial manner with a right hand raised as she did a slight wave, Dan was about to say something when he paused in his tracks as he set his eyes on a bandage on Okoye's left cheek as well as a thin bandage across her left arm which basically put a dent on her rather appealing physical appearance, Okoye notices Dan staring and taps him again to get him to talk.

"What happened to you??"

Dan asks with a frown as he regained his composure.

"Oh, nothing for you to worry about. Just a little injury I got during the team exercise."

Okoye replies.

"How did you get injured like this??"

Dan asked again.

"I already told you just a little accident, nothing for you to worry about."

Okoye replies trying to put the topic aside.

"Hmm, were you the only one that got hurt??... What about your teammates."

Dan asks.

"She's the only one that got hurt, her teammates are fine."

Mae chimes in signifying her presence.

"Was she the reason you went back into the medical ward??"

Dan asks turning his attention to Mae with Okoye feeling like she could finally take a breather from the incessant questions on a topic she wasn't really happy talking about.

"Yes, she's the reason. Why??"

Mae asks.

"Are you guys related or something??"

"Nope, she's my mentor."

Okoye replies before Mae can do so with the latter wondering why she even bothered.

"Mentor??"

Dan puts up a brow.

"I was the one that scouted her team and brought them to the island to take part in the exams."

Mae replies.

"Oh… Wait does that mean all the teams at this exam got scouted??"

"Not really, most were scouted while some others just happened to pass the sign-up process."

Okoye settles into the chair with Dan turning his attention back to her.
